Bevor wir zur Seenotrettungsübung müssen, noch ein Blick aus dem Balkon: die STARRY METROPOLIS nochmals.



Before we had to leave for the life drill we had a look from our balcony: one more time STARRY METROPOLIS.



Hinzu kommt noch die CHINA STAR. Bei uns vielleicht noch eher als RADISSON DIAMOND bekannt.



Another ship came: CHINA STAR. Maybe we better know her as RADISSON DIAMOND.





Friederike's and my card did not work. So I need to see the front desk willy-nilly which was of course very busy. The life drill starts. And just before I was the next to be served they closed the front desk. Most angry to me: A Spanish-speaking guest just pushed to the front desk and the receptionist accepted it and explained that the guest's card is not working and he cannot get into his cabin and that was why he was taken immediately to serve him. During the whole cruise I had to learn that this receptionist always allow all Spanish-speaking guests to skip the line and gave them immediate service. I cried back that I have exactly the same problem and I would not be able to get into my cabin to collect the life vests for the life drill. On the way to the theater I see the very first time that they checked the cabins for passengers and marked them accordingly.



Die Karten von Friederike und mir funktionieren nicht. So muss ich doch wohl oder übel zur Rezeption, die natürlich sehr voll ist. Die Seenotrettungsübung findet statt. Und genau bevor ich dran wäre wird die Rezeption geschlossen. Was mich am meisten ärgert: vor mir drängelt sich einfach ein spanisch-sprechender Gast dazwischen und mit der Begründung, dass dieser Gast Probleme hätte, mit seiner Karte in die Kabine zu kommen, wird er einfach noch drangenommen. Leider stellt sich im Laufe der Kreuzfahrt heraus, dass dieser Rezeptionist immer alle spanisch-sprechende Gäste einfach drannimmt und akzeptiert, dass sie keine Lust haben, sich anzustellen. Ich habe zurückgebrüllt, dass ich das gleiche Problem hätte und ebenfalls nicht in meine Kabine käme, weil die Karte nicht funktioniert und ich daher auch nicht zur Seenotrettungsübung kann, weil ich ja nicht an die Rettungsweste käme. Einer war trotzdem so nett und hat mich doch noch drangenommen und die Karten ausgetauscht. Auf dem Weg ins Theater sehe ich zum ersten Mal, dass die Kabinen auf Gäste überprüft wurden und entsprechend markiert wurden.

Im Theater findet die Seenotrettungsübung statt. Lediglich in drei Sprachen Englisch, Spanisch und Deutsch. Meine Schwester erzählt, dass ein Teil der Familie bei A2 sitzt. Dort gab es wohl schon Komplikationen, weil wohl die Guides auch nicht so genau wussten, wohin die Passagiere sollten.



In the theater they conduct the life drill. Only in three languages: English, Spanish and German. My sister told me that one part of my family sit over in A2. They had some problems because some of the guides did know where the passengers should sit.

On the stage you had a demonstration how you need to wear the life jacket.

Damals auf der CELEBRITY EQUINOX wurde einfach ein Filmchen gezeigt und dann den Weg zum Rettungsboot. Das war es.



Then on CELEBRITY EQUINOX they just show a little video and later the way how to find your life boat. That was it.

My little nieces were equipped with tapes.



Meine Nichten werden mit Bändern ausgerüstet.

Und auf denen ist die Sammelstation vermerkt. Meine Schwester und mein Schwager werden aufgefordert, direkt zur Sammelstation zu kommen. Die Kinder werden hierher gebracht, falls Alarm ist und sie alleine auf dem Schiff angetroffen werden. Während der gesamten Kreuzfahrt müssen sie die Bänder tragen - auch wenn sie nicht am Kinderprogramm teilnehmen. Das ist hier weitaus besser geregelt als bei anderen Gesellschaften.



On the tape you find the muster station. My sister and my brother-in-law were told to show up directly at the muster station. The kids will be taken there in case of an alert and they should be met unaccompanied. They had to wear the tapes during the whole cruise - even they are not participating the kids' programmes. This was organised much more better here than with other cruise companies.

Although everything was shown they did not let anyone leaving the theater. Only because I said that I really need to see urgently the restroom they let me out. But they checked if I really went to see a toilet. For the fact that we have the norovirus alert on board I am surprised that the door was closed and you need to open the door yourself by your hand.



Obwohl alles demonstriert ist, wird keiner aus dem Theater gelassen. Nur weil ich sage, dass ich wirklich dringendst zur Toilette muss, lassen sie mich raus. Allerdings sehen sie mir hinterher, ob ich wirklich zur Toilette verschwinde. Dafür, dass wir einen Norovirus-Alarm haben, bin ich überrascht, dass die Türen geschlossen sind und man sie selbst mit der Hand öffnen muss.

Denn auf anderen Schiffen bleiben die Türen offen, wie hier zuletzt auf der NORWEGIAN JADE im Januar 2014. Die größte Gefahr lauert, weil es genügend Vollidioten gibt, die nach dem Gang auf der Toilette sich nicht die Hände waschen und einfach zum SB-Restaurant gehen und dann dort die Zangen anfassen... Hier bin ich dann froh, wenn ich dann keine Griffe anfassen muss. Normalerweise nehme ich aber immer das Papierhandtuch, um die Tür zu öffnen, falls sich dann irgendwo auch ein Behälter findet, um das Handtuch entsorgen kann.



I knew from all other ships that they let the door open like here in January 2014 on NORWEGIAN JADE. The biggest danger came from those complete idiots who see the toilets, do not wash their hands, go to the self-service restaurants and grab all the tongues with their hands... I am always happy if I must not touch a door handle. Normally I use the paper towel to open the door subject you find a bin somewhere around to dispose it.

In the internet I ordered and paid for Bruno and for me a Premium Non-Alcohol-Beverage package.



Im Internet hatte ich für Bruno und mich ein Premium Non-Alcohol Getränkepaket bestellt und bezahlt.

Bis zu einem gewissen Stichtag war es 10% günstiger. So musste ich damals 199,13 EUR (Januar 2014) zahlen. Die wurden von Celebrity in Paris in Euro abgebucht, so dass keine weitere Kosten mit der Kreditkarte entstanden.

Im Café al Bacio möchte ich erstmalig die Karte einsetzen.

Here I was told that a certain remark were missing on my card.



Hier erklärt man mir jedoch, dass ein entsprechender Vermerk auf meiner Karte fehlt.

Da die Schlange vor der Rezeption sehr lang ist und ich am Verdursten bin, gibt man mir das Getränk und bittet mich den Nachweis bis zum Betriebsschluss nachzureichen. Bis dahin könnte man sehr einfach den Bon stornieren.



As the queue for the front desk was so long and I was really thirsty, they gave me the beverage and asked to show up with the proove until they close. It would be very easy for them to cancel the purchase.

So we got the stickers and the front desk promised that they will ask the Bar Manager to cancel all bills we got so far. After a few days we got the credits on our account.



So bekommen wir die Stickers und die Rezeption verspricht, dass sie den Bar Manager darum bitten werden, alle bisherigen Rechnungen zu stornieren. Nach einigen Tagen, sind auch alle Gutschriften erfolgt.

Zum Abschluss des Tages gönne ich mir später noch einen Espresso Macchiato.

Und das Törtchen sieht einfach gesund aus... viel frisches Obst. Aber das gibt es immer umsonst. Dafür braucht man keine Bordkarte.

Der 2. Brief, den Sabine mit an Bord gebracht hat, betraf die Tischreservierung. Einen 10-er Tisch konnte man im Internet nicht reservieren. So hatte ich im Brief darum gebeten, dass wir entweder zwei Tische nahe bei einander bekommen oder einen 10-er Tisch stattdessen. Und zu meinem Erstaunen gab es tatsächlich einen 10-er Tisch, den wir auch bekommen. Später hören wir, dass es im Bereich vom Select Dining nur einen einzigen 10-er Tisch gibt und wir ihn für die gesamte Reise haben könnten.



The 2nd letter which Sabine took for me onboard was regarding the table booking. You could not book a table of 10. So I asked in the letter to have two tables close to each other or a table of 10. And I was nicely surprised to learn that a table of 10 was there for us. Later we learned that in the Select Dining area only one table of 10 was available and we got it for the remainder of our cruise.

Everyone of us were happy that it worked out for us.

Die Brotauswahl sagt uns auch zu.

Und für die Kinder gibt es ein Kindermenü. Die Salatsaucen gibt es immer noch extra als Auswahl am Tisch. Und das Prime-Rib ist auch gut. Nur den Schnecken fehlt der letzte Pfiff. Es schmeckt nur nach flüssigem Fett. Die Kinder haben an diesem Abend so einen großen Appetit, so dass es sogar ein 2. Stück Schokoladenkuchen gibt. Bloß ich bin etwas unglücklich, weil ich ein Suppenkasper bin: den Suppen fehlt irgendwie der Pepp und oft sind sie sehr stark verdünnt im Vergleich zu Suppen, die wir von anderen Schiffen kennen. Bis zum Ende der Reise schaffen sie es nicht eine einzige HEISSE Suppe im Metropolitan Hauptrestaurant zu servieren. Alle sind immer nur LAUWARM.



And for the the kids they had kids' menus. You still get the salad dressing extra at the table. And the Prime-Rib was very nice too. Only the last kick was missing with the escargots. Tasted only like liquid fat. The kids were so hungry that they even got a second piece of chocolate cake. Only I was unhappy as I am the soup lover: somehow I missed a certain kick and they were much thinner than other soups you know from other ships. It was impossible to get one single HOT soup in the Metropolitan Main Dining Room. Each of them were only lukewarm.

I wrote already in the forum: It is the high number of small things which I was missing on CELEBRITY MILLENNIUM. Like a dot on the letter I - at the end of a meal: like the little mint you get with Princess.



Ich hatte ja schon mal im Forum geschrieben: Es ist die Summe an Kleinigkeiten, die ich hier auf der CELEBRITY MILLENNIUM vermisse. So ein Tüpfelchen auf dem i - am Schluss einer Mahlzeit: wie z. B. das Pfefferminzbonbon, das ich bei Princess bekomme.

Oder z. B. Ingwer u. a. bei Holland America, die alle durchweg schlechter bewertet werden als die CELEBRITY MILLENNIUM. Das sind für mich nun einmal die Kleinigkeiten, die am Schluss in Summe den großen Unterschied machen.



Or like some ginger and others you can get with Holland America and most ships of them were rated worse than CELEBRITY MILLENNIUM. These are all the small things which at the end makes the big difference.

When we returned to the cabin we found the letter with the instructions how Select Dining works.



Als wir wieder in Kabine kommen, finden wir dann den Brief vor, in dem beschrieben wird, die es mit dem Select Dining läuft.

Ich laufe noch ein wenig durch das Schiff. Was mir auffällt: Sie spielen gerne mit dem blauen Licht. Kenne ich auch von der öffentlichen Toilette am Hauptbahnhof in Zürich. Dort machen sie es, damit die Drogenabhängigen ein Problem haben, sich die Nadel zu setzen. Mir war aber bislang nicht bewusst, dass Celebrity die bevorzugte Kreuzfahrtmarke für Drogenabhängige ist und man an Bord auch zu solchen Maßnahmen greifen muss.



I walked around the ship. What attracted my attention: They loved to play with the blue light. I only know this from the public toilets of the central station in Zurich, Switzerland. They do it that drug-accicts get problems to find their venes and to put it the needles. But I did not know so far that Celebrity is the preferred cruise line for drug-addicts and you need to have this onboard too.

Everywhere you found hand sanitizer... somehow there was no information what they were for... You cannot identify them immediately and we had many novice cruisers who never have seen them before.



Überall stehen die Handdesinfektionsgeräte... nur irgendwie fehlt noch ein Hinweis, wozu die Dinger hier stehen... Erkennt man vielleicht auch nicht auf Anhieb und wir sind gerade kurz nach der Einschiffung mit vielen Erstfahrern an Bord, die die Dinger gar nicht kennen...

In der Firma bin ich auch für Beschilderungen zuständig. Ich habe persönlich einen Faible für Schriften. Daher fällt mir schon die unterschiedliche Beschilderung der Kabinen auf. Neues Logo.

No logo. I was wondering: what part of the signs can be damaged that you have so many different sings already... Should be something good for the whole life-time of the ship as it is nothing you are using everyday.



Gar kein Logo. Was mich wundert: was kann eigentlich bei so einem Teil kaputtgehen, dass es hier so viele unterschiedliche Schilder gibt... Es müsste doch ein Teil für die Ewigkeit sein, dass es ja sehr wenig beansprucht wird.

Das Teil, was wirklich sehr oft beansprucht wird, ist die "10" im Fahrstuhl. Dort ist das SB-Restaurant...
