Wir gehen zum Empfang für alle Captain's Club Mitglieder (unabhängig vom Status): Eine Einlasskontrolle findet nicht statt, so muss ich auch nicht erklären, dass Katie und Charlie unsere Mitreisenden sind.



We went to the reception for all (all-tiers) Captain's Club Members. There was no access control so I did not need to explain that Katie and Charlie were our cruise-mates.

Luckily we were pre-alerted and did not had lunch before: there was a fruit buffet...



Zum Glück waren wir durch die vielen Reiseberichte vorgewarnt und haben auf das Mittagessen verzichtet: es gab ja das Obstbüffet.

Crepes.

Braten.



Roast...

They had a musical offer from all the best on board.



Musikalisch wurde allem geboten, was an Bord quasi Rang und Namen hatte.

Wir ziehen uns in die Ecke zurück. Dahinter hat sich später moeve (Alexandra) und ihre Familie platziert.



We got a nice corner. Later there was also moeve (Alexandra) and her family there.

The godmother of the ship was on board. She found a breast cancer organisation. Her name was down in the lobby next to her picture. But I did not have it in my mind at this time. (It was Nina Barough).



Auch die Taufpatin des Schiffes ist mit an Bord. Sie ist Gründerin einer Brustkrebsstiftung. Ihr Name steht unten am Bild in der Lobby. Aber mir ist er gerade entfallen. (Nachtrag: Nina Barough).

Hier stehen die "richtigen" zusammen... Kapitän Michael Karatzas und Kreuzfahrtdirektor Gary Walker und dazwischen moeves (Alexandra) Vater...



Here were all the "right" persons together... Captain Michael Karatzas and Cruise Director Gary Walker and in between moeve's (Alexandra) father...

From the music side it was great: I did not personally if an acapella-group need some music instrumental background or if it might be better without instruments. But so you can show more artists at one time.



Musikalisch war es absolut klasse: ich weiss persönlich nicht so Recht, ob man eine Acapella-Gruppe nun instrumental begleiten muss, oder ob es nicht ohne Instrumente besser wirkt. Aber so kann man mehr Künstler auf einmal präsentieren.

Auch die Freunde von klassischer Swing Musik kommen hier voll auf die Kosten. Es wird zwischendurch auch mal getanzt...

Oben am Mast Grill gibt es immer etwas zu essen.



Above on Mast Grill you always get some food.

I tried it with the room service and I had problems to confirm with the remote control or with the keyboard. But our stateroom attendant had problems as well and called the room service for me.



Ich versuche mit jedoch am Zimmerservice und ich habe Schwierigkeit, ob mit Tastatur oder mit der Fernbedienung zu bestätigen. Auch unser Kabinensteward schafft es nicht und ruft für mich den Zimmerservice an.

Die Suppe war leider ungenießbar und auch Salz und Pfeffer halfen nichts. Es schmeckte nur nach heißem Wasser. Auch wurden für die Chicken-Noodle-Soup Spaghettis verwendet, die man kaum mit dem Löffel herausbekommen hat. Das andere war in Ordnung.



The soup was unacceptable and even salt and pepper were not helpful. It tasted just like hot water. They used for the Chicken-Noodle-Soup Spaghettis which you could not handle barely with a spoon. The other food was fine.

The had dance lessons in the lobby.

Über den Anruf, dass ich mir meinen unterschriebenen Douglas Ward-Führer abholen kann, freue ich mich sehr.



I was happy to get the call from the front desk that my signed Douglas Ward guide was ready to collect.

I used my old NCL-bup to refill because it fit more to my small hands. It was accepted but you need to open it yourself and keep the lid before they refill it.



Ich nutze immer meinen alten NCL-Becher zum Auffüllen, weil er besser in meinen kleinen Händen liegt. Das wird hier akzeptiert. Nur man muss selbst den Deckel entfernen, bevor es aufgefüllt wird.

Als wir uns bei Restaurant Hostess Inga (aus Essen) melden, ist nur der Tisch frei, den wir am 1. Abend hatten. Als ich zunächst ablehne, fragt sie sofort nach, ob es am Service oder an der Lage nach. Bruno meint, dass es vielleicht am ersten Abend lag, der vielleicht chaotischer war als der 2. und 3. Abend und darauf bin ich bereit, denen eine 2. Chance zu geben. Als wir uns gerade gesetzt haben, findet Inga noch einen anderen Tisch für uns, aber wir bleiben. Aber auch jetzt ist hier wieder die Butter schon optisch leicht ranzig und das Brot fehlt.



When we reported to restaurant hostess Inga (from Germany) there was only the table available we had the first night. I declined and she asked immediately if it was the location or the service. Bruno thought it was maybe more chaotic the first night generally then the 2nd and 3rd night so I was willing to give a second chance. Just the moment we sat down Inga found another table for us but we stayed. But again the butter was slightly rancid and the bread was missing.

I was the only one whose napkin was not placed on the legs but that was due to the person who took us to the table... But from his position it should not happen....



Mir wird als einziger die Serviette nicht auf dem Tisch auf den Schoss gelegt worden, aber das lag an demjenigen, der uns zum Tisch geführt hat... Aber ihm hätte es von der Position her nicht passieren dürfen...

Als am Nachbartisch ein Glas fehlt, wird kurzerhand an unserem Tisch kommentarlos weggenommen. Ein anderer Kellner braucht für seine vier Gäste an einem 6-er-Tisch aus optischen Gründen den 6. Stuhl und fragt uns zumindest, ob der noch gebraucht wird. Als wir nein sagen, nimmt er ihn mit. Nur die brauchen ihn auch nicht, da sie den ganzen Abend auch nur zu viert an dem 6-er-Tisch sitzen.



There was one glass missing the next table. Someone came and just took our glass without comments. Another waiter need for his four guests at table for six due to optical reasons a sixth chair but he asked if we need it. As we said no he took it but the other table did not need it either as they were only four at a table of six.

The bread came but much more earlier than the first night. When we saw that all other tables had candles illuminated we wanted to turn it on. But we had none.



Das Brot kommt, aber dieses Mal früher als beim 1. Abend. Als wir merken, dass an allen anderen Tischen die Kerze an ist, wollen wir sie auch anmachen. Nur wir haben gar keine.

Das Risotto, wie es sie im Zuzahlrestaurant UNITED STATES gibt, schmeckt Bruno und mir überhaupt nicht. Vor allem es ist genau ein Würfelchen Jacobsmuschelfleisch dabei. Katie wollte es ursprünglich als Hauptgang haben und so bitten wir nochmals um die Karte, um umzudisponieren. Ich nehme stattdessen einen Salatgang nochmals. Dass 3/4 vom Teller nicht gegessen wurden, interessiert keinen.



Bruno and I disliked the risotto they offer in the UNITED STATES speciality restaurant. There was exactly one little cube of scallop. Katie wanted to have it originally as entree and so we asked again for the menu to change the order. I took instead a salad. 3/4 of the course was left but none was interested to know.

Und meine Hühnerbrühe: zumindest kein Heißwassergeschmack vom Kabinenservice. Aber in beiden Suppen fehlt Pfeffer und Salz.

That was my ruccoloa-watercress-salad...



Das ist mein Ruccola-Wasserkresse-Salat.

Das Ruccola-Blatt muss ich unter dem Blattsalat hervorsuchen. Die Wasserkresse wird samt Stamm serviert. Der Dressing kommt dieses Mal zeitnah.



The leave of ruccola was hidden under a leave of lettuce. Watercress was served with the strain. But the dressing came close to the salad.

Before our waiter went to the kitchen he came again to us and said that it was our last chance to change again. I was not sure if I should like or dislike this gesture because I was never asked this before. If something did not meet my taste they brought something else. Bruno was unsatisfied with his fish. The filling tasted strange and the fish was dry.



Bevor unser Kellner in die Küche geht, kommt er demonstrativ zu uns, und meint, dass wir uns nochmals umentscheiden können. Ich weiss nicht ob ich diese Geste positiv oder negativ bewerten soll, weil ich bislang so etwas noch nie gefragt wurde. Wenn mir etwas nicht geschmeckt hat, wurde mir einfach etwas anderes gebracht. Mit dem Fisch war Bruno nicht zufrieden. Die Füllung schmeckte befremdlich und der Fisch war trocken.

Mein Steak auf Pasta war gut. Mit einer leckeren Salz-Pfeffer-Kruste. Es gibt also Salz und Pfeffer in der Küche: warum benutzt der Suppenkoch sie nicht. Ist er erkältet? Keine Ahnung allerdings, ob nicht dazu eine Sauce gehört. Uns wurde zumindest keine serviert. Die Fragen beziehen sich wieder auf das aktuelle Gericht: ob mein Fleisch gut sei. Auf Kaffee und Dessert verzichten wir. War eh nicht dafür gedeckt. Und ziehen lieber ins Café al Bacio, wo wir von Joaquim erwartet werden. Am Ausgang sehen wir, was wir als Dessert verpasst haben: die restlichen Crepes vom Captain's Club Empfang heute Mittag... Auf eine Show verzichten wir.



My steak on pasta was good. With a nice salz-pepper-crust. So they had salt and pepper in the kitchen: why did not the soup cook use it. Does he have a cold? No idea if there was a sauce for the steak. None was offered. The questions refered again to the current course: if my meat was good. We did not want any coffee or dessert. There were no silverware anyway available for this course. We prefered to go to Café al Bacio where Joaquim expected for us. At the exit we saw which dessert we missed: the left over crepes from the Captain's Club reception this afternoon... We had no show the night...
