Tag/Day 0.B auf dem Weg zur/on the way to CELEBRITY INFINITY in Piraeus, Greece

Unser Hotel ist am Tor E6. Normalerweise würde ich gerne noch schnell zu E1, um von hier noch Nachtaufnahmen von der CELEBRITY INFINITY zu machen, aber leider konnten Johanna und ich kein einziges offenes Tor finden. In der Wintersaison gibt es nachts keine Fährabfahrten. Daher ist auch alles verschlossen. CELEBRITY INFINITY ist bereits im Hafen am Tor E12. Mit Johanna können wir aber zwischen den Häusern einen Aussichtspunkt finden. Die Position ist jedoch nur für Terminal C gut: was soll ich bloß morgen früh machen, wenn die SUN PRINCESS reinkommt.



Our hotel is at gate E6. Usually, I would like to quickly go to E1 to take night photos of the CELEBRITY INFINITY, but unfortunately, Johanna and I couldn't find a single open gate. There are no ferry departures at night during the winter season. That's why everything is locked. CELEBRITY INFINITY is already in the harbor at gate E12. But with Johanna, we can find a vantage point between the houses. However, the position is only suitable for Terminal C: what should I do tomorrow morning when the SUN PRINCESS comes in?



Im Laufe des frühen Morgen und später am Tag gelingen mir doch noch ein paar Aufnahmen vom Schiff.



I managed to take a few photos of the ship in the early morning and later in the day.

I'm also lucky: the brand new SUN PRINCESS is also in port. At 06:00 hrs, the harbor is open again, and I can take night photos again.



Ich habe auch Glück: die nagelneue SUN PRINCESS ist ebenfalls im Hafen. Um 06:00 Uhr ist bereits der Hafen wieder offen und ich kann daher nochmals die Nachtaufnahmen machen.

Das Frühstück im Hotel ist ganz gut. Es gibt ein umfangreiches Angebot. Ein Cappuccino kostet aber 2,00 EUR (2024) extra. Aber der schmeckt Bruno. Ich entschließe mich, heute nur die herzhaften griechischen Spezialitäten zu probieren und hebe mir die süßen für morgen auf. Es läuft noch eine gute Show: eine deutsche alleinreisende Mutter mit Kind telefoniert so laut, dass wir alles unfreiwillig mitbekommen. Das Kind nörgelt. In dem Fall, weil es will, dass jemand sofort kommt, um den Teller abzuräumen. Da wir alles verstehen, bitten wir beim Personal, ob sie nicht den Teller holen könnten, damit endlich Ruhe ist. Das Personal erzählt uns dann, dass Mutter und Kind bereits seit einer Woche hier residieren. Das Kind wollte bereits das gesamte Personal entlassen. Seitdem wird das Kind vom Personal "ignoriert". Damit hatten wir nicht gerechnet: Eine Breakfast-Show, die im Preis inbegriffen ist. Hoffentlich gehen sie nicht auf die selbe Kreuzfahrt.



The breakfast in the hotel is quite good. There is an extensive offer. However, a cappuccino costs 2.00 EUR (2024) extra. But Bruno likes it. I decided only to try the savory Greek specialties today and save the sweet ones for tomorrow. There's another good show: a German mother traveling alone with a child is talking on the phone so loudly that we can't help but notice everything. The child nags. In this case, it wants someone to clear the plate immediately. Since we understood everything, we asked the staff if they could finally fetch the plate to be peaceful. The staff member then told us that the mother and child had stayed there for a week. The child already wanted to fire the entire staff. Since then, the child has been "ignored" by staff. We didn't expect this: a breakfast show, which is included in the price. Hopefully, they will not go on our cruise.

We met Lothar and Claudia on DIAMOND PRINCESS 2016. You are guests on SUN PRINCESS. They want good shots of SUN PRINCESS, and so do I. So we took the ferry to Salamina together. Here, we came close to the cruise ships.



Auf der DIAMOND PRINCESS 2016 haben wir Lothar und Claudia kennengelernt. Sie sind Gäste auf der SUN PRINCESS. Sie wollen gute Aufnahmen von der SUN PRINCESS und ich auch. So nehmen wir gemeinsam die Fähre nach Salamina. Hier kommen wir hautnah an den Kreuzfahrtschiffen vorbei.

Ich bekomme am 14.03.2024 die Aufforderung die Gesundheitsfragen zu beantworten. Ich will sie beantworten, und es wird mir mitgeteilt, dass der Fragebogen erst am 13.03.2024 mittags freigeschaltet sind. Irgendwann ist er doch freigeschaltet und die erste Frage ist nach meiner Schwangerschaft... haha!!!



I will be asked to answer the health questions on March 14, 2024. I want to answer them, but I am informed that the questionnaire will be activated at noon on March 13, 2024. It was activated at some point, and the first question was about my pregnancy — haha!!!



Wir fahren am Containerterminal vorbei. Ein paar Container von uns sehe ich. Aber kein Schiff, mit dem wir von Frankfurt aus zu tun haben.



We pass the container terminal. I see a few of our containers. But not a ship that we have anything to do with from Frankfurt.



Wir kommen in Salamina an. Aufgrund des Sonnenstandes in Piräus beschließen wir hier uns umzusehen und Mittag zu essen. So müsste später die SUN PRINCESS perfekt in der Sonne stehen. Der Ort ist sehr bunt: viele Blumen und es werden wohl Wellensittiche als Tierfutter verkauft - aber vielleicht verstehe ich ja auch die Fahne falsch. Wie lange habe ich in Deutschland schon lange keine Tierhandlung gesehen. Zuletzt als Kind.



We arrive in Salamina. Due to the sun's position in Piraeus, we decide to look around and have lunch here. SUN PRINCESS would later have to stand perfectly in the sun. The place is very colorful: lots of flowers and budgies are probably sold as animal feed — but maybe I'm misunderstanding the flag. It's been a long time since I've seen a pet shop in Germany, most recently as a child.

We get a tip to walk to the other end of the water. Here, we find a small fish market.



Wir bekommen einen Tipp bis zum anderen Ende des Wassers zu laufen. Hier finden wir einen kleinen Fischmarkt.





Direkt am Ende befindet sich die Taverne „Ankyrovoli“ Ouzeri. Das war hier richtig lecker. Lauter Kleinigkeiten, die wir uns geteilt haben. Alles frisch gemacht - alles gut. So wie man sich eben Essen in Griechenland vorstellt.



Right at the end is the “Ankyrovoli” Ouzeri tavern. This was tasty. We shared lots of little things. Everything was freshly made — and sound — just like you imagine food in Greece.

Since the ferry only runs every hour and Claudia and Lother might otherwise come under pressure, we try to take an earlier ferry together. We can't find a taxi, but the bus arrives. We take a German bus to the ferry.



Da die Fähre nur stündlich fährt und sonst evtl. Claudia und Lother unter Druck geraten, versuchen wir doch eine frühere Fähre gemeinsam zu nehmen. Ein Taxi finden wir nicht, aber der Bus kommt. Wir fahren mit einem deutschen Bus zur Fähre.



Another ship has now arrived in the harbor: LA BELLE D'ADRIATIQUE.



Ein weiteres Schiff ist zwischenzeitlich im Hafen eingelaufen: LA BELLE D'ADRIATIQUE.



We walked part of the way to Terminal B with Claudia and Lothar. Our paths separated at the height of St. Nikolai Church. It was nice to see fellow travelers again after eight years. Piraeus is also beautiful.



Ein Teil des Weges zum Terminal B laufen wir gemeinsam mit Claudia und Lothar mit. Auf der Höhe der St. Nikolai-Kirche trennen sich unsere Wege. Es war mal schön Mitreisende nach acht Jahren wiederzusehen. Auch in Piräus ist es schön.

Lt. Homepage der Hafenverwaltung Piräus sollte noch die CELESTYAL OLYMPIA im Hafen sein. Sie gehört ja nicht mehr zur Flotte. Ich frage daher bei Celestyal nach: die Saison wurde nicht 1:1 durch ein neueres Schiff der Flotte ersetzt. Daher ist im Moment kein Ersatzschiff im Hafen.



According to the Piraeus port administration's homepage, CELESTYAL OLYMPIA should still be in the port. She's no longer part of the fleet. I therefore ask Celestyal: the season was not replaced 1:1 by a newer ship in the fleet. Therefore there is no replacement ship in port at the moment.



In einer Filiale von Coffee Berry machen wir erst mal eine Kaffeepause.

Der Geist ist willig, aber das Fleisch ist schwach. Ich brauche Wege, die nicht an einer griechischen Bäckerei verbeiführen. Ich war ja immer noch nicht im Kurs, dass ich lernen muss "nein" zu sagen. Ich kaufe aber nicht die halbe Bäckerei leer, sondern ich bin diszipliniert und kaufe nur ein Stück. Zum Glück ist die Kleinmarkthalle in Frankfurt weit weg von meinem Büro, sonst wäre ich dort Stammkunde bei dem dortigen griechischen Delikatessenhändler.



The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. I need ways to get away from a Greek bakery. I still haven't taken the course that I have to learn to say "no." But I don't buy half the bakery; I'm disciplined and only buy one piece. Luckily, the "Kleinmarkthalle" (Market Hall) in Frankfurt is far from my office; otherwise, I would be a regular customer of the Greek delicatessen there.

Opposite the hotel is the terminus of Metro Line 1, which goes to Monastiraki. You are in the middle of Athens' old town district, Plaka.



Gegenüber vom Hotel ist der Endbahnhof der U-Bahn-Linie 1, die nach Monastiraki fährt. Dort ist man mitten in der Plaka.







We go down to the new Subway 3 station to Monastiraki, Syntagma, and the airport. She also goes to downtown Piraeus to the Dimitiko Theater.



Wir gehen mal runter zur neuen Station der U-Bahn 3 nach Monastiraki, Syntagma und zum Flughafen. Sie fährt auch in die Innenstadt von Piräus zum Dimitiko Theater.









Wir gucken uns mal den Fahrkartenautomaten an: sehr praktisch: für 4,10 EUR (2024) kann man einen Tag durch Athen hin und her fahren.



We take a look at the ticket machine, which is very practical: for 4.10 (2024), you can travel back and forth through Athens for a day.

While walking earlier, I noticed restaurants on the market. The market is closed. But the restaurants are open. Some look very inviting and expensive. A small, inconspicuous one with a grill in front of the door catches our attention: To Palio Roloi. Bruno gets his freshly grilled fish for very little money, and I get my pork souvlaki. A perfect day comes to an end.



Vorhin beim Spaziergang fielen mir Restaurants am Markt auf. Der Markt hat geschlossen. Aber die Restaurants haben offen. Manche sehe sehr einladend und teuer aus. Ein kleines unscheinbares mit einem Grill vor der Tür erregt unsere Aufmerksamkeit: To Palio Roloi. Für sehr wenig Geld bekommt Bruno seinen frisch-gegrillten Fisch und ich meine Souvlaki aus Schwein. Ein perfekter Tag geht zu Ende.
