Tag/Day 0.A auf dem Weg zur/on the way to CELEBRITY INFINITY in Piraeus, Greece

Ich habe schon während des Hessentags in Pfungstadt meinen Namen auf Arabisch notieren lassen, damit ich mich in Kairo adäquat vorstellen kann. Aber dann kam der Konflikt im Nahen Osten dazwischen und Celebrity hat umgeroutet. Wir hatten schon die Flugtickets gekauft und auch schon Pläne für die Post-Cruise in Mazedonien. Dann kam der neue Vorschlag: Übernacht in Thessaloniki - da wollte ich schon immer hin. Und Limassol auf Zypern: da war ich auch noch nicht. Auf unserer Bucketliste stehen noch das Akropolis-Museum in Athen, Knossos und Lindos. Und März ist ja zum Glück noch nicht so heiß: daher passt es sehr gut. Kusadasi brauchen wir, damit wir zollfrei auf dem Schiff konsumieren können. Die Temperaturen sehen nicht schlecht aus. Ich besorge noch eine Zip-Off-Hose, die sich sowohl als lange Hose, aber auch als Shorts tragen kann. Und sehr praktisch: ohne Gürtel. Endlich komme ich dazu mein Tim und Struppi-T-Shirt von der QUEEN ELIZABETH 2023-Reise zu tragen. Und musikalisch stimme ich mich schon mal auf Türkei und Griechenland ein.


My name was written in Arabic during the Hessentag (Regional Fair) in Pfungstadt, Germany, to introduce myself adequately in Cairo, Egypt. But then the conflict in the Middle East intervened, and Celebrity rerouted. We had already bought the plane tickets and planned to go post-cruise to Macedonia. Then came the new suggestion: Overnight in Thessaloniki - I've always wanted to go there. And Limassol in Cyprus: I have yet to go there, either. Still on our bucket list are the Acropolis Museum in Athens, Knossos, and Lindos. And luckily, March isn't that hot yet, so it's a great fit. We need Kusadasi, Turkey, so that we can consume duty-free on the ship. The temperatures don't look bad. I'm getting a pair of zip-off pants that can be worn as long pants or shorts. And very practical: without a belt. I'm finally wearing my Tintin t-shirt from QUEEN ELIZABETH 2023 trip. And musically, I'm already tuning in to Turkey and Greece.

We buy lots of chocolate for the crew and guides. It's Easter, but it's also Easter in Greece, and it takes place later this year. But they should decide to eat now or later — still far too much luggage. But we bought a fixed upgrade to Business from Lufthansa. They won't see it that closely. But then we see on the boarding pass: 1 x 32 kg (70 lbs.) plus 2 x hand luggage plus one personal item are allowed. That's fine now. The "bad" surprise follows at the airport: The first suitcase weighs 28 kg (62 lbs.), and the check-in agent has no "influence" and is immediately told that I should pay extra. Lufthansa feels the printouts on their boarding passes are not tied and insists on the 2 x 23 kg (50 lbs.) we would have together. Luckily, the second suitcase only weighs 20 kg (44 lbs.), so she "pools" our luggage, and that's how it works. Now, that leaves us with the third piece of luggage: I packed it so we could easily take it apart so each of us would have a second piece of hand luggage. But I still ask if we could check it in. She checks that the plane is fully booked, so they are happy for anyone who checks in their hand luggage. That's why we only travel in the cabin with our trolley and a bag. Everything turned out the way I wanted it to.



Wir kaufen für die Crew und Fremdenführer jede Menge Schokolade. Es ist Ostern, aber auch ist ja Ostern in Griechenland und das findet dieses Jahr später statt. Aber sie sollen selbst entscheiden: gleich essen oder später. Dennoch viel zu viel Gepäck. Wir haben aber ein Festupgrade in die Business bei Lufthansa gekauft. Die werden es schon nicht so eng sehen. Aber dann sehen wir auf der Bordkarte: 1 x 32 kg plus 2 x Handgepäckstücke plus 1 persönlichen Gegenstand sind erlaubt. Das passt jetzt. Am Flughafen folgt die "böse" Überraschung: Der 1. Koffer hat 28 kg und der Check-In-Agent hat gar keine "Einflussmöglichkeit" und es wird ihr sofort angezeigt, dass ich nachzahlen soll: Lufthansa fühlt sich an die eigenen Ausdrucke auf ihrer Bordkarte nicht gebunden, und besteht auf die 2 x 23 kg, die wir zusammenhätten. Der 2. Koffer hat zum Glück nur 20 kg, so dass sie unser Gepäck "poolt" und so klappt es doch. Bliebe jetzt noch das 3. Gepäckstück: das habe ich aber so gepackt, dass wir es einfach auseinander nehmen könnten und somit hätte jeder von uns noch ein 2. Handgepäckstück dabei. Ich frage aber dennoch nach, ob wir das aufgeben dürften. Sie prüft nach, dass die Maschine ausgebucht ist, und daher sie über jeden froh sind, der sein Handgepäck aufgibt. Daher reisen wir doch nur mit unserem Trolley und einer Tasche in der Kabine. Alles ist so aufgegangen, wie ich es mir gewünscht habe.









Wir arbeiten beide in Frankfurt-Niederrad. Und wir haben beide feste Parkplätze. Da bei Brunos Firma neuerdings ein externer Flughafen Parkservice angesiedelt ist, es Mitarbeiter dort auch auf dem Firmenparkplatz parken, aber den Shuttle des Parkservices nutzen können, kommen wir sehr günstig zum Flughafen. Auf jeden Fall weitaus billiger als bisher das Taxi und bequemer als die S-Bahn.



We both work in Frankfurt-Niederrad, Germany, and we both have permanent parking spaces. Since next to Bruno's company recently, an external airport valet parking service has been set up, and employees can also park in the company parking lot but use the valet shuttle; we can get to the airport very cheaply. In any case, it is far cheaper than the taxi before and more comfortable than the commuter train.

At least we're allowed into the lounge, but it's so full that we feel like we're sitting in a can of sardines. Since we are flying later from A1, we feel like we need to go to A26. But the chicken tastes delicious. We left the lounge after seeing our plane arrive at the terminal.



Zumindest dürfen wir in die Lounge, aber es ist so voll, dass wir dort sitzen, wie in einer Sardinenbüchse sitzen. Da wir später ab A1 fliegen, haben wir aber auch keine Lust extra zu A26 zu laufen. Das Hühnchen schmeckt aber ganz lecker. Wir verlassen die Lounge, nach dem wir sehen, dass unsere Maschine am Terminal angekommen sind.





Wir haben Glück: gestern gab es in der Kabine noch Streiks und nur in München. Niemand hat die gelbe Willkommensfläche an der Flugzeugtür bemalt. Ich habe oft gesehen, dass manche Crew-Mitglieder sich die Mühe machen, hier etwas persönlicher das Willkommen zu gestalten. Schade. An Bord werden wir gut versorgt. Einzig: die Informationen, dass der Abflug später abfliegt bzw. später ankommt, kommt manchmal etwas zu spät oder widersprüchlich. Zum Glück kommen wir nur mit leichter Verspätung in Athen an.


We're lucky: yesterday, there were still strikes in the cabins, and today, only in Munich, Germany. Nobody painted the yellow welcome area on the plane door. I have often seen some crew members make an effort to make the welcome here a little more personal — a pity. We are well looked after on board. The only thing is that the information that the flight departs later or arrives later sometimes comes a little too late or needs to be more consistent. Luckily, we only arrived in Athens, Greece, slightly late.

A lot has changed here at Athens Airport: just like in Frankfurt, you have to go through a barrier to drive up, and so Johanna is no longer waiting for us in the terminal. We call when we are in the outside lane in front of the terminal. We last saw her on our NORWEGIAN JADE 2021 trip.



Hier am Flughafen Athen hat sich auch einiges verändert: so wie in Frankfurt, muss man eben durch eine Schranke, um vorzufahren und daher wartet Johanna nicht mehr im Terminal auf uns, sondern wir rufen an, als wir an der Außenspur vor dem Terminal sind. Wir haben sie zuletzt bei unserer NORWEGIAN JADE 2021-Reise gesehen.









Ich wollte, wie bei der RYNDAM-2013-Reise im Hotel Poseidon wohnen, aber es war nicht buchbar. Zwischenzeitlich habe ich das Hotel Port Square gefunden. Schöne Lage. Innen auch sehr schön und sehr freundliches Personal. Giannis hat für mich auch übersetzt, damit der Taxifahrer weiß, was ich will. Wir setzen zunächst Bruno ab, weil er komplett übermüdet ist. Sie haben alles wie versprochen vorbereitet: wir haben zwei getrennte Decken. Sehr schönes Bad und direkt gegenüber die U-Bahnen 1 und 3 in die Stadt und zum Flughafen und direkt hinter der U-Bahn ist noch die S-Bahn zum Flughafen und zum Bahnhof Larissa. Leider kann man nicht bis zur Einfahrt der Kreuzfahrtschiffe gucken.


I wanted to stay at the Hotel Poseidon, like on the RYNDAM 2013 trip, but it wasn't bookable. In the meantime, I found the Hotel Port Square. Nice location. It is adorable inside and has an amiable staff. Giannis also translated for me so the taxi driver knew what I wanted. We first put Bruno down because he is exhausted. They prepared everything as promised: we had two separate blankets. It has a lovely bathroom and is directly opposite the subways 1 and 3 to the city and the airport, and directly behind the subway is the commuter train to the airport and Larissa train station. Unfortunately, you can't see the cruise ship entrance.
