Tag/Day 09 auf der/on CELEBRITY INFINITY in Heraklion, Greece

Heute ist der Sonnenaufgang nicht ganz so schön. Es ist am Horizont ziemlich bewölkt. Solange es nicht regnet, ist alles bestens.



Today, the sunrise could be more beautiful. It's cloudy on the horizon. As long as it doesn't rain, everything is fine.





Milan makes sure everything goes right.



Milan sorgt dafür, dass alles richtig läuft.



Kris puts a smile on my face. I have an iced latte (lactose-free) with whipped cream and a little sugar syrup. Then I noticed that the selection of croissants here is even more extensive than in the main restaurant. The senior officers like Café al Bacio as much as I do and meet here.



Kris zaubert mir ein Lächeln auf mein Gesicht... Iced Latte (lactosefrei) mit Schlagsahne mit etwas Zuckersyrup. Dann stelle ich fest, dass die Auswahl der Croissants hier noch größer ist, als im Hauptrestaurant. Die Senioroffziere mögen das Café al Bacio genauso wie ich und tagen hier.

In Heraklion darf man nicht selbst rauslaufen. Daher gibt es zwei kostenlose Shuttle: einmal nach Heraklion in die Stadt rein und zum Ausgang. Dort ist auch der Taxistand. Während wir im Bus auf die Abfahrt warten, beobachte ich einen Offizier, der anscheinend den Kollegen zeigt, wie man Syrtaki tanzt. Hier treffen wir unsere Reiseführerin Rania. Zuletzt waren wir mit Maria hier mit der NORWEGIAN JADE 2011. Maria hatten wir zunächst angeschrieben, aber sie hat eine längere Tour bekommen und uns an ihre Freundin Rania abgegeben. Sie fährt mit uns mit einem Taxi nach Knossos. Für 50,00 EUR (2024) pauschal, werden wir nach Knossos gebracht, dort wartet der Fahrer und bringt uns danach in die Innenstadt.



In Heraklion, Greece, you are not allowed to walk out yourself. Therefore, there are two free shuttles: one to Heraklion into the city and one to the exit. The taxi rank is also there. While waiting on the bus for departure, I observe an officer who appears to be showing his colleagues how to dance Syrtaki. Here, we meet our tour guide, Rania. We were last here with Maria on NORWEGIAN JADE 2011. At first, we had written to Maria, but she got a more extended tour and handed us over to her friend Rania. She will take us in a taxi to Knossos. For a flat rate of 50.00 EUR (2024), we will be taken to Knossos, where the driver will wait and then take us to the city center.

Maria told us so excitedly about Knossos three years ago that we wanted to know about it. We were fortunate with Rania because she brings us much closer to the Minio culture. There is a vast difference between history lessons from a textbook and an on-site tour. In between, we see Choonie, who is out with his group. There is a substantial qualitative difference between whether we have to stay in a group or whether we can still ask a lot of questions.



Maria hatte uns vor drei Jahren so spannend von Knossos erzählt, dass wir es auf jeden Fall kennenenlernen wollten. Mit Rania hatten wir sehr viel Glück, weil sie uns die minioische Kultur sehr viel näher bringt. Es gibt doch den Riesenunterschied zwischen Geschichtsunterricht aus dem Schulbuch und einer Führung vor Ort. Zwischendurch sehen wir Choonie, der mit seiner Gruppe unterwegs ist. Das ist doch qualitativ ein Riesenunterschied, ob wir in einer Gruppe bleiben müssen, oder eben vieles noch erfragen können.

Grundsätzlich überlassen wir unserem Reiseführer die Auswahl der Orte, die wir uns ansehen sollen. Rania ist der Meinung, dass man unbedingt korrespondierend sich noch die Stücke ansehen sollte, die man eben nicht im Freien ungeschützt an der Ausgrabungsstätte ausstellen kann und daher im Archäologischen Museum in Heraklion sind. Auch hier zahlen wir im Moment halben Eintritt, weil die Hauptsaison noch nicht angefangen hat. Auch hier werden wir so geführt, dass wir schnell die Zusammenhänge zwischen dem, was wir an der Ausgrabungsstätte erfahren haben und die Ausstellungsstücke im Museum erkennen. So schließt sich auch der Kreis zu dem, was wir in Zypern gelernt haben.



We let our guide choose which places we should see. Rania thinks you should look at the pieces that cannot be displayed outdoors unprotected at the excavation site and are in the Archaeological Museum in Heraklion. We also pay half the entrance fee here because the primary season has yet to start. Here, too, we are guided in such a way that we quickly recognize the connections between what we learned at the excavation site and the exhibits in the museum. This also brings us full circle to what we learned in Cyprus.

Even without museum admission, you can access the museum cafeteria. They have a nice selection of pastries, and it's very nice to sit here.



Auch ohne Museumseintritt kommt man in die Cafeteria des Museums. Sie haben auch eine schöne Auswahl an Gebäck. Ferner sitzt man hier sehr schön.







Our time would be over, but Rania appreciated that we were good guests and enjoyed spending time with us. We want to go and have a little something to eat with her. We were unlucky on our trip on NORWEGIAN JADE 2011: it was a local holiday. Heraklion was on its feet then and occupied all the tables in all the restaurants after church.



Unsere Zeit wäre eigentlich zu Ende, aber Rania honoriert, dass wir gute Gäste waren und es hat ihr wohl auch Spaß gemacht, mit uns ihre Zeit zu verbringen. Wir wollen mit ihr eine Kleinigkeit noch essen gehen. Bei unserer Reise auf der NORWEGIAN JADE 2011 hatten wir ja Pech: es war ein lokaler Feiertag. Ganz Heraklion war damals auf den Beinen und hat nach dem Kirchgang sämtliche Tische in allen Lokalen besetzt.

Daher holen wir es nach, was wir damals verpasst hatten. Wir sind durch eine Gasse mit vielen Mezen-Geschäften gegangen und dort riecht es toll. Es gibt zwei, die direkt gegenüber liegen. In diesem gibt es nur vier Tische (Kafeneio Sarandavga). Als einer frei wird, ist Rania sofort weg, um ihn zu besetzen. Sie hätte ja nur uns fragen müssen... wir sind Deutsche... wir haben ja immer ein Handtuch dabei und sind im Handtuchweitwurf spezialisiert, um einen Tisch zu block... Wir lassen sie bestellen. Sie bestellt selbst "normale" Sachen, die uns "langweilen" würden, weil wir sie in jedem deutschen Supermarkt bekommen würden: Tomaten und Gurken. Aber die schmecken nach Sonne, Zucker, Mittelmeer und nicht nach rotem Wasser und grünem Wasser. Viele "ekeln" sich (zu Unrecht) vor Lamm. Aber hier wird es so zubereitet, dass man gar nicht rausschmeckt, dass es Lamm ist. Wir merken auf jeden Fall: Griechische Inseln sind bekannt für Sonne und Strände, aber mit dem richtigen Fremdenführer merkt man erst, dass es sehr viel mehr zu bieten hat. Wir haben viel neues gelernt (man ist niemals zu alt, um noch neues zu lernen) und erlebt. Eine tolle Tour. Rania hat uns schon gesagt, dass es soviel mehr noch auf Kreta gibt. Mit dem kostenlosen Shuttle fahren wir zurück zum Schiff.



That's why we're catching up on what we missed back then. We walked through an alley with many food shops, which smelled fantastic. There are two that are directly opposite. There are only four tables (Kafeneio Sarandavga). When one becomes available, Rania immediately goes to fill it. All she had to do was ask us... we are German... we always have a towel with us, and we specialize in throwing towels to block a table... We let her order. She orders "normal" things that would "bore" us because we would get them in any German supermarket: tomatoes and cucumbers. But they taste of the sun, sugar, and the Mediterranean and not of red water and green water. Many people are (unjustly) "disgusted" by lamb. But here, it's prepared so that you can't even tell it's lamb. We notice that Greek islands are known for the sun and beaches, but with the right tour guide, you realize they have much more to offer. We learned and experienced many new things (you are always young enough to learn new things) — a great tour. Rania has already told us that there is so much more on Crete. We take the free shuttle back to the ship.

We are watched while we eat. Jonathan has probably already seen my pictures on Facebook and greets me. On the other hand, he also enjoys the delicious sides of Crete: M... Ethia.



Wir werden beim Essen beobachtet. Jonathan hat wohl meine Bilder auf Facebook schon gesehen und grüßt mich. Auch er genießt auf der anderen Seite die leckeren Seiten Kretas: M... Ethia.





Zurück an Bord: Nach dem ich leider nochmals persönlich vorsprechen musste bekommen wir Ausschiffungsgruppe 4 (07:00 Uhr) und so sind unsere Koffer die ersten an Land. Uns weist man dann hin, dass wir bis 09:00 Uhr dann jederzeit das Schiff verlassen müssen. Außerdem für mich wichtig: wer ist der Hafenagent in Piräus? Das ist für mich noch später wichtig, wenn ich noch etwas für die Crew zu Hause vorbereite.



Back on board: Unfortunately, after I had to appear again in person, we got disembarkation group 4 (07:00 hrs), and so our suitcases were the first on land. We were then informed that we had to leave the ship at any time until 09:00 hrs. Also important to me: Who is the port agent in Piraeus? This will be important for me later when I'm preparing something for the crew at home.



Dieses Mal erlebt Bruno zufällig den Sonnenuntergang. Ich bereite den nächsten Tag vor. Mein Chef (mit Dienstsitz in Athen) hat uns zum Essen eingeladen.



This time, Bruno happens to witness the sunset. I'm preparing for the next day. My boss (based in Athens) invited us to dinner.

iBroadway is THE show of ALL the shows I have experienced. I took around 2000 photos in 45 minutes, and around 400 remained. There were two reasons for this: the show was so energetic for me that I even watched the show again after dinner. I exchanged ideas with the dancers and artists during the backstage tour. They are amazed by the quality of the images. I agree that I will take more pictures at the last show and "exhibit" them to be seen if necessary. Download images for your portfolio. A few from a German Facebook group feel overwhelmed and cannot simply use the "X" at the top right or their scroll bar. They even give me relaxation tips on how to spend my vacation — a reason to leave this group. Everyone should plan their vacation the way they think they should. I can easily do without such advice. The show begins with pieces from "A Chorus Line," "The Producers," and "Chicago." i.e. The spark ignited with the first note. I have to stop myself from singing along loudly.



iBroadway ist DIE Shows ALLER Shows, die ich erlebt habe. Ich habe rund 2000 Fotos in 45 Minuten geschossen und davon sind ca. 400 übriggeblieben. Das hatte zwei Gründe: für mich war die Show voller Energie, dass ich sogar die Show nach dem Essen nochmals gesehen. Ich hatte mich bei der Backstage-Tour mit den Tänzern und Künstlern ausgetauscht. Sie sind von der Qualität der Bilder begeistert. Ich mache mit denen aus, dass ich bei der letzten Show mehr Bilder mache und sie "ausstelle", damit sie ggfls. für ihre Mappe Bilder herunterlade. Ein paar aus einer deutschen Facebookgruppe fühlen sich überfordert und sind nicht in der Lage einfach das "X" rechts oben oder ihren Scrollbalken zu bedienen. Sie geben mir sogar Entspannungstipps, wie ich meinen Urlaub gestalten soll. Ein Grund diese Gruppe zu verlassen. Jeder sollte seinen Urlaub so gestalten, wie er meint es gestalten zu müssen. Auf solche Ratschläge kann ich bequem verzichten. Die Show beginnt mit Stücken aus "A Chorus Line", "The Producers", "Chicago". D. h. der Funke ist bereits mit dem ersten Ton übergesprungen. Ich muss mich zurückhalten, dass ich nicht laut mitsinge.

Dann kommen die Gassenhauer von "Phantom of the Opera" und "Cats".

Then I have a little "break" to breathe. The rope artists are great, but unfortunately, MSC has already used this too excessively for its own benefit. I'm sorry—they're lovely, friendly people doing extraordinary things up there. But they move so quickly that getting sharp pictures of them is more challenging.



Dann gibt es für mich eine kleine "Pause", um zum Atmen zu kommen. Die Seilkünstler sind toll... nur ist es so: das hat leider MSC zu inflationär für sich bereits eingesetzt. Es tut mir leid - das sind bestimmt auch liebe nette Menschen - und sie leisten bestimmt tolles da oben... Es tut mir leid... Da die aber so schnell sich bewegen, ist es auch schwieriger scharfe Bilder von denen zu bekommen.

OK... nun war ich sowieso nicht mehr der einzige, der mitgesungen hat: "We Will Rock You" und "Mamma Mia". Es ist einfacher, diejenigen zu zählen, die keine Miene verziehen und sich nicht rhythmisch bewegen.



OK... now I wasn't the only one singing along to "We Will Rock You" and "Mamma Mia" anyway. It's easier to count those who don't grimace and don't move rhythmically.

At the end there is "Hairspray". I've seen this on various ships. But because Celebrity still "maintains" the large cast and the live band, the "Vype" jumps from the stage into the audience. I don't care what my neighbors think. I sing along loudly and stand (and more...). I watch the second part of the show twice. But the second time around, you notice what a performance the cast has behind them. They can't get their legs up relatively as high as they did in the first show. "'Cause, you can't stop the beat... 'Cause you can't stop the motion of the ocean - Or the sun in the sky... You can't stop the river as it rushes to the sea - You can try to stop the hands of time, but you know it just can't be!... 'Cause the world keeps spinnin' round and round - And my hearts keepin' time to the speed of sound..." - That is better than any stay at the spa. I feel ten years younger, and after the second show, I think even twelve. I can't take in more energy... Uahhhhhhh...



Am Schluss gibt es "Hairspray". Das habe ich schon auf verschiedenen Schiffen gesehen. Weil aber Celebrity noch die große Cast und die Live-Band "pflegt", springt der "Vype" von der Bühne ins Publikum. Mir ist es egal, was meine Nachbarn denken. Ich singe laut mit und ich stehe auch (und mehr...). Den 2. Teil der Show sehe ich mir zweimal an. Aber beim 2. Mal merkt man schon, welche Leistung die Cast hinter sich hat. Ganz so hoch, wie in der ersten Show bekommen sie die Beine nicht mehr hoch. "'Cause, you can't stop the beat... 'Cause you cant stop the motion of the ocean - Or the sun in the sky... You can't stop the river as it rushes to the sea - You can try to stop the hands of time, but you know it just can't be!... 'Cause the world keeps spinnin' round and round - And my hearts keepin' time to the speed of sound..." - Das ist doch besser als jeder Aufenthalt im Spa. Ich fühle mich zehn Jahre jünger... und nach der 2. Show sogar zwölf... Mehr Energie kann ich nicht mehr aufnehmen... Uahhhhhhh....

Wir gehen zu unserem letzten Abendessen. Morgen hat mich ja mein Chef eingeladen. Wir sind nochmals bei Elmer, Roshan und Milan essen. Das Essen ist heute Abend spitzenmäßig. Der Abschied fällt schwer, speziell, wenn man am Schluss noch so nett verabschiedet wird.



We went to our last dinner, which my boss invited me to tomorrow. We ate again with Elmer, Roshan, and Milan. The food was excellent tonight. Saying goodbye is difficult, especially when you say goodbye so nicely at the end.

A strange thing happens... It's not my birthday until after I disembark. I asked if they could serve me my birthday cake now. Huh??? At first, I refuse. Then I'm asked: would you instead tomorrow? Then it fits pretty well: I need my annual picture for my birthday greeting. It always applies from my birthday to the next birthday. Very good. Then I got the cake that I no longer had to buy myself. So I'm happy about the birthday greeting. We will arrive tomorrow morning as announced. Ten days ago, they came in Piraeus very early, but no one could leave the ship.



Eine komische Sache passiert noch... Ich habe ja erst nach Ausschiffung Geburtstag. Ich werde gefragt, ob sie mir jetzt meine Geburtstagtorte servieren dürfen. Hähh??? Zunächst lehne ich ab. Dann werde ich gefragt: lieber morgen? Dann denke ich nach: eigentlich passt es ganz gut: ich brauche ja mein Jahresbild für meinen Geburtstaggruß. Er gilt immer von meinem Geburtstag zum nächsten Geburtstag. Sehr gut: dann bekomme ich jetzt die Torte, die ich nicht mehr selbst besorgen muss. Ich freue mich also über den Geburtstagsgruß. Wir werden morgen früh wie angekündigt ankommen. Vor zehn Tagen sind sie sehr früh in Piräus angekommen, aber es durfte niemand das Schiff verlassen.
