Tag/Day 08 auf der/on CELEBRITY INFINITY in Rhodos-Stadt/Rhodes-City, Greece

Erst war Regen und dann kam der Mond raus. Morgens war dann wieder ein schöner Sonnenaufgang zu erwarten. Der 2. Wäschesack wird vorbereitet, damit wir nicht nackt ausschiffen müssen. Wir sollen tatsächlich ausschiffen. Aber Gruppe 30? Was ist mit unserem Premium Access? Ich rufe bei der Rezeption an. Aber sie melden sich leider nicht zurück.



First, there was rain, and then the moon came out. A beautiful sunrise was to be expected again in the morning. The second laundry bag is prepared so we don't have to disembark naked. We should disembark. But Group 30? What about our Premium Access? I'll call reception, but unfortunately, they don't get back to you.

On the way to the main restaurant, I noticed this work of art. I like it. Of course, it is even more beautiful with men. That reminds me of the film "Swimming with Men", one of the most beautiful European films, which is also available in Swedish and French.



Auf dem Weg zum Hauptrestaurant fällt mir dieses Kunstwerk auf. Mir gefällt es gut. Mit Männern natürlich noch schöner... Das erinnert mich an den Film "Swimming with Men". Einer der schönsten europäischen Filme - gibt es auch in Schwedisch und Französisch.

Wir liegen direkt am Rande der Altstadt an. Tini kennen wir von der NORWEGIAN JADE 2021. Damals haben wir einen großen Spaziergang durch die Altstadt gemacht. Wir könnten auch in die Neustadt oder in die Festung gehen, aber wir sind zum dritten Mal in Rhodos (MSC MUSICA 2007 und RYNDAM 2013) und wir waren noch nie in Lindos. Heute haben wir auch das richtig schönes Wetter dafür.



We are right on the edge of the old town. We know Tini from NORWEGIAN JADE 2021. Back then, we took a long walk through the old city. We could also go to the new town or the fortress, but this is our third time in Rhodes (MSC MUSICA 2007 and RYNDAM 2013), and we have never been to Lindos. Today we also have nice weather.

We start taking photos at the parking lot (a hidden one, so you have to drive around the outside, and no bus can get there).



Schon am Parkplatz (eben ein versteckter, bei dem man einmal außen rum fahren muss und kein Bus hinkommt), fangen wir an, zu fotografieren.

Und dann hat Tini eine Kleinigkeit vergessen zu erwähnen: es fährt gar keine Rolltreppe oder Fahrstuhl durch den Ort, so wie in Hong Kong oder Monte Carlo, sondern man muss das alles zu Fuß machen. Wir sollen auf die Muster des Bodens achten. So etwas würden wir auf einer Rolltreppe nicht finden. Ich bin doch keine Ziege oder ein Esel. Es gibt wohl, wie in Santorini, auch einen Weg mit dem Esel hoch, aber noch nicht jetzt in der Nebensaison. Aber auch der führt nicht durch den Ort, sondern am Ortskern vorbei.



And then Tini forgot to mention one little thing: there are no escalators or elevators throughout the town, like in Hong Kong or Monte Carlo, but you have to do everything on foot. We should pay attention to the patterns of the ground. We couldn't find anything like that on an escalator. I'm not a goat or a donkey. Like in Santorini, there is probably a way up by donkey, but it still needs to be in the low season. But it doesn't lead through the town either, but past the town center.

We walk to the highest point in the city (= Acropolis as a term). We're lucky: it's low season, but from April 1st, 2024, it's high season again. So we only pay 50% of the regular entrance fee. And again, there is no escalator to get further up. But the view from above makes all the effort worth it. Tini gives us all the historical background information. The other cruisers have all left, so we almost have the Acropolis to ourselves. That's the advantage: because Tini also leads the cruise groups, she always knows the processes and can arrange them so that we have peace and quiet.



Wir laufen bis zum höchsten Punkt der Stadt (= Akropolis als Begriff). Wir haben Glück: es ist Nebensaison, ab 01.04.2024 ist wieder Hauptsaison. So zahlen wir nur 50% des regulären Eintritts. Und wieder keine Rolltreppe, um weiter hoch zu kommen. Aber der Blick von oben entschädigt für alle Mühen. Tini gibt uns alle historischen Hintergrundinformationen. Die anderen Kreuzfahrer sind schon alle wieder weg und so haben wir die Akropolis fast für uns alleine. Das ist der Vorteil: dadurch dass Tini auch die Kreuzfahrtgruppen führt, weiss sie immer, wie die Abläufe sind und kann es so gestalten, dass wir unsere Ruhe haben.

Wir suchen einen Ort für eine Tasse Kaffee. Viele Cafés haben noch nicht wiedereröffnet. Überall wird renoviert und für die neue Saison schön gemacht. In dem einen Café, der leckeres Gebäck hat, findet ein Kindergeburtstag statt und gibt keinen Platz mehr für uns. Aber Tini findet noch einen schönen Dachgarten (Arhontiko).



We're looking for a place to have a cup of coffee. Many cafes have yet to reopen. Everywhere is being renovated and made beautiful for the new season. There is a children's birthday party in the one café with delicious pastries, and there is no more room for us. But Tini still finds a beautiful roof garden (Arhontiko).

We drive back a bit to visit a Greek bakery. But we are already very late: unfortunately, most of it is already gone. There is at least an ATM next door.



Wir fahren ein Stück zurück, um eine griechische Bäckerei aufzusuchen. Aber wir sind schon sehr spät dran: das meiste ist leider schon weg. Nebenan ist zumindest ein Geldautomat.

Tini zeigt uns noch die neuen In-Viertel rund um die neue Marina in Rhodos-Stadt. Hier sind auch viele schöne Restaurants und Cafés entstanden. Sie lässt uns direkt an einem der Stadttore raus. Ein sehr schöner Ausflug ist zu Ende gegangen. Mal sehen, was uns unser nächster Landgang auf Rhodos bringt. Wir beschließen nicht zu weit in die Altstadt reinzulaufen, um noch irgendwo eine Tasse Kaffee zu trinken.



Tini shows us the new in-districts around the new marina in Rhodes Town. Many beautiful restaurants and cafés have also been created here. She lets us out right at one of the city gates. A lovely trip has come to an end. Let's see what our next shore excursion on Rhodes brings us. We decided not to walk too far into the old town to have coffee somewhere.

At "At Thomas" we find what we're looking for. They also have homemade taramas. Of course I have to have that, since we didn't have a chance in Thessaloniki.

Back on board, we continue drinking coffee. As you get older, you become increasingly stuffy, but can't the father, standing right next to him, tell his son to put a T-shirt over it when he wants to get a piece of cake at the café?



Zurück an Bord trinken wir weiter Café. Im zunehmenden Alter wird man ja zunehmend spießiger: aber kann der Vater, der direkt daneben steht, seinem Sohn nicht sagen, dass er sich ein T-Shirt darüber ziehen soll, wenn er sich am Café ein Stück Kuchen holen will?



Before sailing, a Greek folklore group offers dance performances on the open deck. Luckily, I'm one deck above and can disappear as they pull guests from the first row onto the stage and reenact "Zorba, the Greek" with them.



Vor dem Auslaufen ist eine griechische Folklore-Gruppe auf dem offenen Deck und bietet Tanzvorführungen an. Zum Glück bin ich ein Deck darüber und kann verschwinden: als sie Gäste aus der 1. Reihe auf die Bühne ziehen und mit ihnen "Zorbas" nachstellen.

Wir sind wieder auf den Helipad eingeladen. Weil wir aber 15 Minuten früher ablegen, haben wir eigentlich die Ausfahrt bereits verpasst. Daher ist es schon recht windig und Bruno geht in die Kabine zurück. Ich hätte nicht erwartet, dass man so gut bei uns reingucken kann. Ein Boxsack hängt hier, aber wo ist mein Foto? Dann kann sich die Crew ja am "schwierigsten" Gast der Crew auslassen. Auch die müssen ja sich abreagieren können. Aber die meisten mögen uns: bei einer festen Tischzeit würden wir unserem festen Kellnerteam am Schluss einen großen Schein geben. Aber wir wechseln ständig die Kellner Teams. Würden wir à-la-carte unsere Getränke bezahlen, würden wir ja auch jedes Mal aufrunden. Also verteilen wir das Geld in kleinen Portionen an diejenigen, die uns gerade aktuell bedienen. Und wir haben eben jede Menge Schokolade mit. Deswegen: auf uns hätten sie wohl kaum Grund böse zu sein, aber ich erwarte dafür schon, dass es so läuft, wie ich es mir vorstelle.



We are invited back to the helipad. But because we set sail 15 minutes earlier, we already missed the exit. So it's already quite windy, and Bruno returns to the cabin. I didn't expect people to be able to look inside us so well. There's a punching bag hanging here, but where's my photo? Then, the crew can have fun with the "most difficult" guests on the crew. They also have to be able to vent. But most people like us: if there were a fixed table time, we would give our permanent team of waiters a big bill at the end. But we constantly change the waiter teams. We would always round up if we paid for our drinks à la carte. So, we distribute the money in small portions to those currently serving us. And we have a lot of chocolate with us. That's why they hardly have any reason to be angry with us, but I expect things to work out how I imagine.

And again, we experience a beautiful natural spectacle: a sunset by the sea.



Und wieder erleben wir ein schönes Naturschauspiel: einen Sonnenuntergang am Meer.

Und wir gucken mal wieder, was es abends geben soll. Da wir sehr spät erst unseren Tisch bestellt haben, möchte ich eine Mini-Portion Pasta. Eigentlich ist die Pasta-Ausgabe bis 01:00 Uhr nachts durchgehend besetzt. Es ist jemand auch da, der mir allerdings sagt, dass er jetzt kochen müsste und es überhaupt nicht passt, dass ich jetzt etwas möchte. So etwas sagt man auch nur einmal zu mir. Mein Detektor springt sofort an und ich erwische die Restaurantleitung. Ein paar Minuten später habe ich die Pasta. Ich habe viel Verständnis für die Crew. Er hätte ja nur freundlich und höflich fragen müssen, ob ich ein paar Minuten warten kann... alles wäre in Ordnung gewesen.



And we'll see what we'll have in the evening again. Since we ordered our table very late, I would like a mini portion of pasta. The pasta outlet is open until 01:00 hrs at night. Someone there also told me that he has to cook now and it doesn't fit and that I want something now. People say something like that to me only once. My detector goes off immediately, and I catch the restaurant manager. A few minutes later, I had pasta. I have a lot of sympathy for the crew. All he had to do was ask kindly and politely if I could wait a few minutes... everything would have been fine.

We're at the Tuscan Grille in the evening. What am I doing? The rib-eye steak was perfect. Should I order the same thing again? Or all No. 2s from the menu. I had done that before and was "deadly unhappy." But No. 2 is just not as good as my No. 1. So I ordered a rib-eye steak again and only tried a little of the starter to leave room for my rib-eye steak. I thought it was perfect on the first visit, but they have outdone themselves again. I am curious whether the polenta would have tasted good: I concentrate on my steak, the meat juice, and the bread with the meat juice. Thanks to Val and Alex for the taste experience. Val also made me aware of the different menus at Le Petit Chef.



Wir sind abends im Tuscan Grille. Was mache ich bloß? Das Rib-Eye-Steak war ja perfekt. Soll ich wieder das gleiche bestellen? Oder alle Nr. 2 von der Karte. Das hatte ich schon mal gemacht und war "todunglücklich". Aber Nr. 2 ist eben nicht so gut, wie meine Nr. 1. Also bestelle ich wieder ein Rib-Eye-Steak und probiere nur ein wenig von der Vorspeise, um Platz für mein Rib-Eye-Steak zu lassen. Ich dachte, dass es beim ersten Besuch schon perfekt war, aber sie haben sich selbst nochmals nochmals übertroffen. Keine Ahnung, ob die Polenta geschmeckt hätte: ich konzentriere mich auf mein Steak und den Fleischsaft und das Brot zum Fleischsaft. Danke an Val und Alex für das Geschmackserlebnis. Val war übrigens auch derjenige, der mich auf die unterschiedlichen Menüs bei Le Petit Chef aufmerksam gemacht hat.

Und wäre nicht Sercan in Kusadasi nicht gewesen: das ist die neue Spritze, die ich ab heute benötigt hätte.
