Unser Hotel bietet ein schönes Frühstücksbüffet an. Aber ich bin noch voll von gestern Abend und ich muss Platz lassen für das heutige Mittagessen. Was bin ich froh, dass die Franzosen eher die Freunde von Mittag- und Abendessen sind.



Our hotel offers an excellent breakfast buffet. But I'm still full from last night, and I have to make room for today's lunch. I'm so glad the French are more fans of lunch and dinner.

I work on the corner of Saônestrasse and Hahnstrasse in Frankfurt, Germany. So, once in my life, I want to stand on the river Saône. Although we were last in Lyon, France, before our trip joining QUEEN ELIZABETH 2023. There is a river cruise ship here. But I'll save that for when I don't want to fly anymore. Right here, I see the demarcation line that separated occupied France from the area under the Vichy government before World War II. Chalon-sur-Saône is not yet fully awake.



Ich arbeite an der Ecke Saônestraße Ecke Hahnstraße in Frankfurt. Also einmal im Leben dann auch mal an der Saône stehen. Obwohl wir ja zuletzt in Lyon vor unserer Reise auf dem Weg z QUEEN ELIZABETH 2023 waren. Hier liegt ein Flusskreuzfahrtschiff. Aber das hebe ich mir mal auf, wenn ich nicht mehr fliegen mag. Ich entdecke direkt hier die Demarkationslinie, die vor dem 2. Weltkrieg das besetzte Frankreich von dem Gebiet unter der Vichy-Regierung. Chalon-sur-Saône ist noch nicht richtig wach.

Die Brasserie Le Saint Pierre ist bereits offen. Viele sitzen bereits draußen (uns zu kalt), und genießen ihre Zigarette und einen Kaffee dazu. Wir nehmen unseren Café Noisette (Espresso Macchiato / Cortado).

In a Facebook group, I expressed my regret that our income would never be enough to eat at Bocuse once in our lives. I can still remember the chef of all chefs. Back then, we sat in the student dorm every weekend armed with a pad and pen and had to write everything down. My television didn't have Teletext and no websites to read up on. But someone said you can eat cheaply in the stadium when there are no games: Brasserie des Lumières. A typical menu formula was here so you could try it out. But a lot of people took advantage of this beautiful experience. We were the first (typically German), and the restaurant was quite full when we left. I do not usually appreciate desserts, but this was devilishly good. Back then, during our stay on the way to QUEEN ELIZABETH 2023, we learned that Lyon is known for its desserts and baked goods made with red fruits. But my low-temperature beef and the salad with the poached egg were also delicious. I just disregarded the non-alcoholic cocktail: it was too healthy for me - I certainly won't get a sore throat for the next three years.



In einer Facebook-Gruppe hatte ich irgendwie bedauert, dass wohl unser Einkommen niemals reichen würde, um einmal im Leben bei Bocuse zu essen. Ich kann mich noch erinnern: der Koch aller Köche. Wir saßen damals im Studentenwohnheim jedes Wochenende mit Block und Stift bewaffnet, und mussten alles mitschreiben. Mein Fernseher konnte noch kein Videotext und Homepages zum Nachlesen gab es nicht. Es hatte sich aber einer gemeldet, der sagte, dass man im Stadion an Tagen ohne Spielbetrieb durchaus sehr günstig essen kann: Brasserie des Lumières. In der Tat gab es hier auch eine typische Menüformel, um mal einzusteigen und zu probieren. Dieses schöne Erlebnis nutzen aber sehr viele aus. Wir sind die Ersten (typisch Deutsch eben) und als wir gehen, ist das Restaurant recht voll. Ich bin ja normalerweise nicht unbedingt derjenige, der Desserts schätzt, aber das war wirklich teuflisch gut. Damals bei unserem Aufenthalt auf dem Weg zur QUEEN ELIZABETH 2023 haben wir ja gelernt: Lyon ist für seine Desserts und Backwaren mit den roten Früchten bekannt. Aber auch mein Rind bei Niedrigtemperatur und der Salat mit dem pochierten Ei, war sehr gut. Nur den alkoholfreien Cocktail verschmähe ich: der war mir zu gesund - in den nächsten drei Jahren bekomme ich bestimmt keine Halsschmerzen mehr.

Es geht ein Stück weiter nach Valence. Obwohl wir dieses Mal nicht mit dem E-Auto unterwegs sind: nur keinen Stress und mal gucken, was es hier so gibt. Ist auch sehr schön. Wir sehen die schönsten Kreationen einer französischen Patisserie. Nur würden wir vermutlich nicht mehr lebend in Marseille heute Abend ankommen, wenn wir jetzt hier uns reinsetzen würden. Auch diese Stadt ist gastronomisch ein Zentrum französischer Kochkunst. Eine Straße ist nach Jacques Pic benannt. Er hatte drei Michelin-Sterne und noch heute führt seine Tochter sein Restaurant: Maison PIC. Zum Glück haben auch sie einen "Billig-"Ableger: Bistrôt André. Aber irgendwie kann das nicht gut sein: der teuerste Wein ist ja nur 5900 EUR. Für den nächsten Besuch in Frankreich, muss ich mir das mal vormerken. Die werden hoffentlich ein Pfandhaus in Valence haben, damit ich etwas versetzen kann, wenn das Geld für das Essen nicht reicht. Ich glaube, dass eine Flusskreuzfahrt auf der Saône oder Rhône mein finanzieller Tod wäre. Ich würde ja nichts an Bord essen und eben den ganzen Tag an Land.



We continue a little further to Valence. Although we are not driving an electric car now, don't stress; look at what is available here. It is also very nice. We see the most beautiful creations of a French patisserie. But we probably wouldn't arrive in Marseille alive this evening if we sat here now. This city is also a gastronomic center of French cooking. A street is named after Jacques Pic. He had three Michelin stars, and his daughter still runs his restaurant today: Maison PIC. Fortunately, they also have a "cheap" branch: Bistrôt André. But that can't be good: the most expensive wine is only 5900 EUR. I'll have to note that for the next time I visit France. Hopefully, they have a pawn shop in Valence so that I can pawn something if I don't have enough money for food. A river cruise on the Saône or Rhône would be my financial death. I wouldn't eat anything on board and spend the whole day on land.

Once in a lifetime, we'll go to Avignon, France. Of course, everyone here knows the sparrow of Avignon: Mireille Mathieu. "Acropolis goodbye". We park in the ugliest parking garage, and when we get out, we fall backward: such a beautiful city, but such an ugly parking garage.



Einmal im Leben auch mal nach Avignon. Hier kennt man natürlich den Spatz von Avignon: Mireille Mathieu. "Akropolis Adieu". Wir parken im hässlichsten Parkhaus und als wir rauskommen, fallen wir rückwärts um: So eine schöne Stadt, aber so ein hässliches Parkhaus.

"Sur le pont d'Avignon, on y danse, on y danse..." - Auch wenn man kein Französisch kann: soviel Französisch kann jedes Kind. Also ich möchte wieder mich wie ein Kind fühlen und endlich einmal auf der Brücke von Avignon stehen. Vielleicht könnte ich es noch auf dem Glockenspiel von meiner damaligen frühkindlichen Musikerziehung. Sie ist eigentlich die Pont Saint-Bénézet und UNESCO Welterbe. So müssen wir karten lösen, damit wir einmal auf die HALBE Brücke dürfen. Die andere Hälfte gibt es nicht mehr! Ich will mein halbes Geld zurück. Jo... schön... schöner Ausblick auf das Panorama von Avignon. Aber es gibt bestimmt spannendere Brücken. Und trotzdem war es schön, hier gewesen zu sein und wieder ein Ort mehr, um wieder zu kommen. Es lohnt sich bestimmt auch mal hier zu übernachten und sich mehr von der Stadt anzusehen.

I want to feel like a child again and finally stand on the bridge in Avignon. It's the Pont Saint-Bénézet and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. So we have to buy tickets to go on HALF of the bridge. The other half no longer exists! I want half of my money back. Yeah, it's a nice view of the panorama of Avignon. But there are more exciting bridges. And yet, it was nice to have been here and one more place to return to. It's worth staying overnight here and seeing more of the city.

We continue to Marseille, France. This time, we are staying at the Holiday Inn Express. It is directly opposite Marseille Saint-Charles train station. Beautiful location. And amiable staff. A beautiful view from the window. And above all, very accommodating. I can leave my car here until the end of my cruise for 14.00 EUR/night (2024). Over under the train station, it is 30.00 EUR/night (2024). It would be cheaper at the Marseille-Provence Cruise Terminal (MPCT) at 15.00 EUR/night (2024). However, I discovered that we are docking not at the MPCT but at J4. And the parking garage there costs 30.00 EUR/night (2024)



Wir fahren weiter nach Marseille. Dieses Mal übernachten wir im Holiday Inn Express. Das ist direkt gegenüber vom Bahnhof Marseille Saint-Charles. Schöne Lage. Und sehr nettes Personal. Ein schöner Blick aus dem Fenster. Und vor allem sehr entgegenkommend. Ich darf für 14,00 EUR/Nacht (2024) mein Auto bis zum Ende meiner Kreuzfahrt hierlassen. Drüben unter dem Bahnhof sind es 30,00 EUR/Nacht (2024). Billiger wäre es noch am Marseille-Provence Cruise Terminal (MPCT) 15,00 EUR/Nacht (2024). Da ich aber herausbekommen habe, dass wir gar nicht am MPCT anlegen, sondern am J4. Und dort kostet das Parkhaus wieder 30,00 EUR/Nacht (2024).

Mit der Metro M2 fahren wir nach Joliette. Hier steigen wir normalerweise um, wenn wir weiter mit dem Bus 35 bzw. 35T zum MPCT fahren. Aber in diesem Fall ist es die Metro-Station, die als nächste zu unserem Pier liegt.

We walk along the promenade to the Cathedral of La Major, which is close to the old harbor.



Wir laufen entlang der Promenade bis zur Kathedrale La Major. Bis zum alten Hafen ist es auch nicht mehr weit.

Und genau gegenüber werden wir in ein paar Tagen anlegen. Genau zwischen der Kathedrale und dem Anleger ist es schön beleuchtet und die Restaurants sehen auch sehr nett aus.



We will be docking right opposite in a few days. The area between the cathedral and the pier is beautifully illuminated, and the restaurants look lovely.





It's a shame that VIKING JUPITER is already gone. We last saw it in the shipyard in Genoa, Italy, when we arrived with MSC WORLD EUROPA 2023. So we only saw WORLD TRAVELLER. Unfortunately, we can't find a good spot from which I can take a good photo of the ship.



Schade, dass die VIKING JUPITER bereits weg ist. Zuletzt haben wir sie ja in der Werft in Genua gesehen, als wir mit der MSC WORLD EUROPA 2023 eingelaufen sind. So sehen wir nur die WORLD TRAVELLER. Aber wir finden leider keine gute Stelle, von der ich gut das Schiff fotografieren kann.

Bei unserer Reise auf der REGAL PRINCESS 2022 waren wir hier im Le 13 essen. Ein Kollege von Yang Ming Marseille hat es uns empfohlen. Ich wollte eigentlich endich die die Bouillabaise essen, aber schon wieder stehen Moules et Frites und Tartar auf der Karte... und wieder sind meine kullinarischen Gelüste größer als meine Vernunft. Also gibt es wieder Moules et Frites. Die sind einfach zu gut. Als wir zurück ins Hotel wollen, fährt die U-Bahn bereits nicht mehr. Es fährt der Bus als Schienenersatzverkehr. Er ist kostenlos und hält direkt vor unserem Hotel. Ein schöner Tag geht zu Ende und wir müssen früh raus und schnell ins Bett.



During our trip on REGAL PRINCESS 2022, we ate here at Le 13. A colleague from Yang Ming Marseille recommended it to us. I finally wanted to eat the bouillabaisse, but moules et frites and tartar are on the menu again... and again, my culinary cravings are more significant than my common sense. So we have moules et frites again. They are just too good. When we want to return to the hotel, the subway is no longer running. The bus is running as a rail replacement service. It is free and stops right in front of our hotel. A beautiful day is ending, and we must get up early and go to bed quickly.
