Tag/Day 0C auf dem Weg zur/on the way to AZAMARA PURSUIT in Venedig/Venice, Italy

Ich möchte möglichst früh in Venedig sein. Direkt um die Ecke in zwei Minuten zu Fuß ist die Haltestelle Sernaglia. Ich bin froh, dass ich hier direkt einsteigen kann.



I wanted to be in Venice, Italy as early as possible. Just around the corner, in two minutes walking distance, you had the bus stop Sernaglia. I was happy that I could just board here.

Right from here, you had the buses 7 and 7E for Piazzale Roma.

Dort ist die Haltestelle, wenn man von Venedig kommt.

The first bus of route 7E came, and it was already so packed that I needed to stand.



Da kommt der allererste Bus der Linie 7E und der ist schon so voll, dass ich stehen muss.

Kurz vor Ankunft am Piazzale Roma sehe ich das Schild zum Kreuzfahrtterminal San Basilio.

Venice awoke. A great atmosphere when the sun rose and hardly anyone was on the way. I thought here in the police station I wanted to be arrested in jail: even if the bars were in front of the window: just looking out here and enjoying the atmosphere.



Venedig erwacht. Eine tolle Stimmung, wenn die Sonne aufgeht und kaum jemand unterwegs ist. Ich glaube, hier in der Polizeiwache möchte ich im Knast sitzen: auch wenn die Gitterstäbe vor dem Fenster sind: hier einfach rausgucken und die Stimmung genießen.

Ich fahre am Großmarkt in Venedig vorbei. Die Stadt muss beliefert werden. Logistik pur. Vielleicht sollte ich mir hier eine neue Stelle suchen. Die Getränkekästen fliegen nur so durch die Luft, um Distanzen zu überbrücken. Unsere Berufsgenossenschaft hätte hier schon längst eingegriffen. Ich wäre gerne noch früher hier gewesen: aber viel früher gibt es kaum öffentlichen Verkehr in Venedig. Die besondere Logistik macht eben den Kaffee auf dem Markusplatz so teuer! Ich kann nicht mit einem großen LKW vor das Café fahren, sondern muss alles mit Sackkarren vom Anleger ins Café schaffen. Bitte mal darüber nachdenken, bevor man das nächste Mal sich über die hohen Preise aufregt. Auch jedes Stück dreckiger Wäsche eines Hotels muss per Hand zum Anleger geschafft werden, bevor es in ein Boot kann und dann zu einer Wäscherei gebracht werden kann. Auch Abfälle usw. später müssen wieder entsorgt werden und es kommt kein Müllwagen direkt vor die Haustür. Alles muss mitbezahlt werden.



I passed the wholesale market in Venice. The city needed to be supplied. Pure logistics. Maybe I should look for a new job here. The beverage crates just flew through the air to bridge distances. Our state insurance for work accidents would have intervened here already. I would love to be here earlier: but much earlier there was hardly any public transport in Venice. The special logistics made the coffee at St. Mark's Square so expensive! You could not drive in front of the café with a big truck, but everything needed to be moved manually from the pier to the café. Please consider it before you get upset about the high prices next time. Every piece of dirty laundry in a hotel had also to be moved manually before it could get into a boat and then be taken to a laundry. Also waste, etc. later must be disposed of again and there was no garbage truck right outside the front door. Everything needed to be paid.

I passed the cruise terminal Stazione Marittima several times today. Earlier the day, only MSC OPERA and VISION OF THE SEAS were in port, but later also MY AZAMARA PURSUIT arrived. First, MSC OPERA was in the foreground.



Es geht mehrmals heute am Kreuzfahrtterminal Stazione Marittima vorbei. Morgens nur MSC OPERA und VISION OF THE SEAS und später ist MEINE AZAMARA PURSUIT noch dabei. Zunächst steht die MSC OPERA im Vordergrund.

Im Laufe des Tages verabschiedet sich die VISION OF THE SEAS. Ein Grund wieder bei der Ausfahrt durch den Giudecca-Kanal dabei zu sein.

And later I also looked around in the cruise terminal Stazione Marittima. Tomorrow we supposed to go to the Isonzo 2 terminal. Azamara wrote "Terminal 18" in their letter. That did not exist, but only pier 18. But that was only important for the captain and the pilot. For me, as a passenger, it was essential to show up at the Isonzo 2 terminal tomorrow. For the passenger, only the terminal names were visible outside. By the way, that was pretty much the only mistake that was made by Azamara in the three days. Otherwise, even if they made further mistakes: everything was forgiven and forgotten. At Azamara, you could not get resentful. Unfortunately, this was also the most extended way to any ship to do. There would be a shuttle to the Isonzo 2 terminal shortly after access control to the port area, so you only had to walk from the People Mover stop for a quarter of the way. But for me as a shipspotter, this was perfect, as long as I could walk without heavy luggage. The port also had an office of Portabagagli, which provided luggage transport to the airport, train station, hotel, etc. and home. Also, the luggage was stored here: but attention: you could only pick up the bags, even if a ship would be in the port. Therefore, if necessary. first, you should get out of the harbor and let it store in the city.



Und später sehe ich mich noch im Kreuzfahrtterminal Stazione Marittima um. Wir müssen morgen zum Isonzo 2-Terminal. Azamara schreibt "Terminal 18" in seinem Brief. Das gibt es nicht, sondern nur Anlegestelle 18. Aber das ist nur wichtig für den Kapitän und den Lotsen. Für mich als Passagier ist es wichtig, dass ich am Isonzo 2-Terminal morgen erscheine. Für den Passagier sind nur die Terminal-Bezeichnungen außen sichtbar. Das ist übrigens so ziemlich der einzige Fehler, der Azamara in den drei Tagen passiert ist. Ansonsten selbst wenn sie noch Fehler gemacht hätten: alles vergeben und vergessen. Bei Azamara kann man gar nicht nachtragend werden. Leider ist das auch von den Schiffen der weiteste Weg, den man machen kann. Es wird kurz nach der Einlasskontrolle zum Hafengelände ein Shuttle zum Isonzo 2-Terminal angeboten, so dass man von der Haltestelle des People Movers nur ein Viertel der Strecke laufen müsste. Aber für mich als Shipspotter ist das perfekt, solange ich ohne schweres Gepäck laufen muss. Im Hafen befindet sich auch das Büro von Portabagagli, das für einen Gepäcktransport zum Flughafen, zum Bahnhof, zum Hotel usw. und nach Hause sorgt. Auch wird das Gepäck hier aufbewahrt: aber Achtung: man kommt kann das Gepäck dann nur abholen, wenn auch ein Schiff im Hafen ist. Daher ggfls. erst mal raus aus dem Hafen und in der Stadt aufbewahren.

Gegen 07:00 Uhr morgens bin ich endlich in San Marco. Fast menschenleer. Und später nochmals gegen 15:00 Uhr.

I checked into the Hotel Danieli and left my luggage there and locked my valuables already in a safe deposit box. These were the only two things that I liked less: my luggage took an eternity to be in the room. And I was only allowed to use the safe deposit box when I was checked in. Without a safe in my bed without breakfast, I did not find it very secure. But I was not allowed to use the safe deposit box yesterday. But that too was quickly forgiven and forgotten: I was here in another world! You could not describe that: you had to experience it yourself. By the way, if you were not a hotel guest, you were not allowed to enter the interior of the hotel, but only to see the concierge and reception.



Ich checke im Hotel Danieli ein und lasse mein Gepäck dort und schließe meine Wertsachen bereits in ein Schließfach. Das sind auch die einzigen zwei Punkte, die mir weniger gefallen haben: mein Gepäck braucht später ewig lange, bis dass es im Zimmer ist und ich darf das Schließfach nur nutzen, wenn ich angemeldet bin. Ohne Safe in meinem Bed ohne Breakfast finde ich es nicht besonders sicher. Aber ich durfte gestern das Schließfach leider noch nicht nutzen. Aber auch das ist schnell vergeben und vergessen: ich bin hier in einer anderen Welt! Das kann man nicht beschreiben: das muss man selbst erleben. Wenn man kein Hotelgast ist, darf man übrigens das Innere des Hotels nicht betreten und darf nur zum Concierge und zur Rezeption.

Ich begebe ich mich bereits wieder in Wartestellung für die AZAMARA PURSUIT und fahre wieder zur Bar Zitelle rüber. Über MarineTraffic verfolge ich bereits, wie sie langsam nach Venedig reinkommt. Hier frühstücke ich auch und es ist wieder so viel, dass ich die Hälfte mitnehmen kann. Ich hatte Lust auf ein Bauarbeiterfrühstück! Schnitzelbrötchen. Und sie haben die Salatblätter nicht mit aufgewärmt.



I was already awaiting AZAMARA PURSUIT and headed back to the Bar Zitelle. I was already following on MarineTraffic as she was slowly entering Venice. Here I also had breakfast, and it was so much that I could take away half of it. I felt like to have a construction worker breakfast! Cutlet roll. And they did not warm up the lettuce leaves.

The last time I saw the arrival from the roof of my hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, when we were traveling on NORWEGIAN SUN 2019. But entering Venice was much more spectacular than this stupid industrial port in Buenos Aires, and there was not any real promenade, where the ship passed by.



Zuletzt habe ich in Buenos Aires, als wir mit der NORWEGIAN SUN 2019 unterwegs waren, die Einfahrt vom Dach meines Hotels einfahren sehen. Aber die Einfahrt in Venedig ist doch sehr viel spektakulärer als dieser blöde Industriehafen in Buenos Aires und eine echte Promenade, an der das Schiff vorbeifährt, gibt es ja auch nicht.

Später kommt noch ein Flusskreuzfahrtschiff vorbei: MICHELANGELO.

Und macht für ihre Kunden erst mal eine Revierfahrt bis zur Stazione Marittima und dreht dort und fährt wieder zurück. Ich würde mir sehr wünschen, dass Schiffe, die in Altona oder in Steinwerder anlegen auch eine Revierfahrt bis zur Elbphilharmonie machen, bevor sie auf das offene Meer hinaussteuern.

When I arrived back home after the trip, their new CD was in our mailbox. It was nice to meet there here in this form again. The CD included Por Una Cabeza by Carlos Gardel and Libertango by Astor Piazzolla. They gave me a lot of energy with their music on the cruise. I, unfortunately, missed a range of classical music on AZAMARA PURSUIT: Too bad. Since I was musically very versatile, nevertheless I had my fun on the journey.



Als ich nach der Reise wieder zu Hause ankomme, liegt deren neue CD bei uns im Briefkasten. Schön, dass ich sie hier in dieser Form wiedertreffe. Auf der CD ist unter anderem Por una Cabeza von Carlos Gardel und Libertango von Astor Piazzolla. Sie haben mir mit ihrer Musik auf der Kreuzfahrt sehr viel Energie gegeben. Ein Angebot an klassischer Musik habe ich auf der AZAMARA PURSUIT habe ich leider vermisst: Schade. Da ich musikalisch jedoch sehr vielseitig bin, habe ich trotzdem meinen Spaß auf der Reise.

Schade, dass wir hier nicht liegen.

Das ist immer wieder schön hier.

Mit Alilaguna fahre ich mit der allerersten Fahrt des Tages auf der blauen Linie zum Kreuzfahrtterminal Stazione Marittima. Probleme gibt es mit dem Fahrkartenautomaten im Hotel, aber zum Glück gibt es auch einen personenbesetzten Verkaufsstand. Ich will ja noch nach Burano und stelle fest, dass Alilaguna auch die grüne Ausflugslinie anbietet.



With Alilaguna I went with the very first ride of the day on the blue line to the cruise terminal Stazione Marittima. There were problems with the ticket machine in the hotel, but luckily there was also a staffed stall. I still want to go to Burano and noticed that Alilaguna also offered the green excursion line.

I quickly bought them on the ACTV-app to find out right now: I had to wait a while before I could activate and use them. I could have queued instead of that.



Ich kaufe sie mir schnell auf der ACTV-App, um eben jetzt festzustellen: ich muss eine Wartezeit einhalten, bevor ich sie aktivieren und nutzen kann. Da hätte ich mich genauso gut anstellen können.

Später stelle ich fest: zur Vaporetto Linie 4.1 und 5.1 kann man auch ganz einfach unter der Trasse des People Movers langgehen, wenn man am Piazzale Roma aussteigt.

Ich habe zwischenzeitlich eine Push-Nachricht erhalten, dass mein Zimmer jetzt im Hotel Danieli verfügbar ist. Das Hotel ist nichts für Mobilitätseingeschränkte. Bestimmte Teile des Hotels sind nur über eine Treppe erreichbar. Panik, als ich das Hotelzimmer erreiche: ich komme mit diesem elektronischen Schlüssel nicht klar und eine große Bettdecke für zwei. Die wird aber sehr schnell gegen zwei normale Decken getauscht, als ich bei der Rezeption anrufe. Alles andere traue ich mich kaum anzufassen.



In the meantime, I received a push message that my room was now available at the Hotel Danieli. The hotel was not prepared for the guests with reduced mobility. Certain parts of the hotel were only accessible by stairs. Panic, when I reached the hotel room: I could not handle this electronic key and one single large blanket for two. But it was exchanged very quickly for two normal blankets when I called the front desk. Everything else I hardly dared to touch.

Still a hotel of old days with writing portfolio of leather. I actually wanted to have lunch at the hotel. I was told by mistake that there was already a dress code at lunchtime. As I edited images of the incoming AZAMARA PURSUIT, I did not notice how time flew. My luggage was still not there, and I had to keep going. So I just ate the rest of my breakfast. For room service, no surcharge of 11.00 EUR was charged, as in the last hotel. The prices were already calculated so that the service was included. But one night at Hotel Danieli was a once in a lifetime project. I would have lunch on the roof terrace Terrazza Danieli. But I decided to eat later in Burano, and I should get away quickly.



Ganz noch ein Hotel alter Tage mit Schreibmappe aus Leder. Ich will eigentlich im Hotel zu Mittagessen. Irrtümlich sagt man mir, dass mittags schon ein Dresscode besteht. Da ich Bilder von der einlaufenden AZAMARA PURSUIT bearbeite, bemerke ich nicht wie die Zeit vergeht. Mein Gepäck ist immer noch nicht da und ich muss weiter. So esse ich kurzerhand den Rest meines Frühstücks auf. Der Zimmerservice kostet keinen Zuschlag von 11,00 EUR wie im letzten Hotel. Dafür sind die Preise bereits so kalkuliert, dass der Service inkludiert ist. Aber eine Nacht im Hotel Danieli ist ein einmal im Leben Projekt. Ich hätte mir das Mittagessen auf der Dachterrasse Terrazza Danieli gegönnt. Aber ich entschließe mich doch später in Burano zu essen und zu sehen, dass ich noch schnell wegkomme.

Das Bad hat sehr wenig Platz für die eigenen Sachen.

Und man hätte gar nichts eigenes mitbringen müssen: es ist alles da.



There was no need to have your personal stuff: everything was there.

Mostly, you would miss in Germany at a bidet: a towel and some soap that you could start immediately.



Fehlt meistens in Deutschland am Bidet: ein Handtuch und Seife, damit man sofort starten kann.

To get the key to the balcony and open the window completely, I had to sign a disclaimer. Unfortunately, you could not see the water, but you looked directly at the Doge's Palace. Our balcony was also popular with the pigeons for their rest.



Um den Schlüssel für den Balkon zu bekommen und das Fenster vollständig öffnen zu können, musste ich einen Haftungsauschluss unterschreiben. Leider können wir das Wasser nicht sehen, aber wir sehen direkt auf den Dogenpalast. Unser Balkon ist auch bei den Tauben für deren Ruhepause beliebt.

Ich sehe mich noch ein wenig im Hotel um. Verwirrend: 300-er Zimmernummern bedeuten nicht, dass man im dritten Stock wohnt, sondern im Excelsior-Bau. Eine Systematik kann ich leider nicht erkennen. Irgendwann habe ich einfach jemandem vom Personal gefragt, die mir erklärt hat, dass mein Zimmer in der 4. Etage ist. Sie haben wohl auch das Danieli Bistro mit einer interessanten Speisekarte hier im Haus.



I took a look around the hotel. Confusing: 300s room numbers did not mean that you stayed on the third floor, but in the Excelsior building. Unfortunately, I could not recognize a system. At some point, I just asked someone from the staff who told me that my room was on the 4th floor. They probably also had the Danieli Bistro with an interesting menu here in the hotel.

With Vaporetto route 7 I went directly to Murano. I had no time for art: neither for the Guggenheim Museum nor for the Biennale. But still, I passed a sculpture: Building Bridges by Lorenzo Quinn. An art object of the Biennale 2019, which was only released in May 2019.



Mit Vaporetto Linie 7 fahre ich direkt nach Murano. Ich habe keine Zeit für Kunst: weder für das Guggenheim-Museum noch für die Biennale. Aber dennoch fahre ich an einer Skulptur vorbei: Building Bridges von Lorenzo Quinn. Ein Kunstobjekt der Biennale 2019, die erst Mai 2019 freigegeben wurde.

Murano. Hier waren wir zuletzt vor der NORWEGIAN JADE 2011 (2)-Reise. Daher steige ich nur am Anleger Faro in die Vaporetto Linie 12 nach Burano um.

It took us alongside the island of Mazzorbo. Here, the colorful houses attracted the attention.

It was sad that I noticed now that Mazzorbo and Burano were connected by a bridge. Otherwise, I could get off before.



Schade, dass ich jetzt erst sehe, dass Mazzorbo und Burano mit einer Brücke verbunden sind. Sonst wäre ich doch ausgestiegen.

I needed to have orientation for later when I was planning to return on Vaporetto line 14: so jetty B.



Ich orientiere mich schon mal: später möchte ich zur Vaporetto-Linie 14, also Anleger B.

Nur den Fahrplan verstehe ich absolut nicht, obwohl ich Verkehrswesen an der TU Berlin studiert habe und früher ein Praktikum bei den Berliner Verkehrs-Betrieben (BVG) gemacht habe. Später bekomme ich raus: alle 30 Minuten zwischen San Marco und Punta Sabbioni und alle 60 Minuten fährt sie im Sommer bis Burano durch.



I just did not understand the timetable. Even though I studied transport at the Technical University of Berlin, Germany and did an internship at the Berlin Transport Company (BVG). Later I found out: every 30 minutes between San Marco and Punta Sabbioni and every 60 minutes it continued to Burano in the summer season.

A long time ago, a report about the little sister of Murano was published in the Lufthansa Magazine. And somehow I always wanted to come here ever since. I liked it very much here. As soon as you left the main road, it got tranquil on the side streets, and also very lovely.



Im Lufthansa Magazin gab es vor langer Zeit einen Bericht über die kleine Schwester von Murano. Und irgendwie wollte ich seitdem immer mal hierher. Es gefällt mir hier ausgesprochen gut. Sobald man die Hauptstraße verlässt, wird es in den Seitenstraßen sehr ruhig und auch sehr schön.

In Italien muss man auch Pizza essen. Und die hier bei Principe finde ich persönlich ganz gut: schmeckt eher nach Baffetto in Rom als nach Da Michele in Neapel. Sehr lecker und wie üblich viel zu groß. Und wie üblich in Italien: minimales Trinkgeld, wenn schon ein Gedeckpreis berechnet wird. Die Katze bettelt allerdings am Nachbartisch. Dort gibt es frischen Fisch.



In Italy you had to eat pizza too. Personally, I found it quite good here at Principe: it tasted more like Baffetto in Rome, Italy than Da Michele in Naples, Italy. Very tasty and as usual way too big. And as usual in Italy: minimal tip, if a cover charge was on the bill. However, the cat begged at the next table. They had fresh fish.

When I was later back in Lido, I could see ATLANTIC JET leaving for Croatia.



Als ich später wieder in Lido bin, sehe ich wie die ATLANTIC JET nach Kroatien rausfährt.

Eine sehr gute Idee, dass ich lieber in Giudecca fotografiert habe. Vom Hintergrund San Marco erkennt man wenig.

At least, you could see the garden of the Biennale in the background.

Bruno ist gelandet. Er schafft es noch auf die letzte Alilaguna-Fahrt mit der roten Linie, die später abfährt, aber früher ankommt, als die blaue Linie. Ich fahre nach Lido, um ihn hier zu begleiten. Die Fahrt mit Alilaguna einmal von Lido nach San Marco ist durch meine ACTV-Tageskarte nicht abgedeckt. Der Spaß mit der roten Linie von Lido nach San Marco kostet 10,00 EUR (2019). Weil es die letzte Fahrt ist, legen wird später auch nicht direkt vor dem Hotel am Anleger C in San Zaccaria an, sondern eben am Anleger des Shuttles zum Hilton Hotel Molino Stucky.



Bruno arrived. He made it to the last Alilaguna ride with the red line, which left later, but arrived earlier than the blue line. I went to Lido to join him here. The ride by Alilaguna from Lido to San Marco was not covered by my ACTV-day pass. The pleasure to use the red line from Lido to San Marco cost 10,00 EUR (2019). We had luck: when I boarded the boat at Lido, the sun was setting above San Marco.

Zunächst müssen wir uns im Hotel umsehen.



First, we need to look around in the hotel.

It was something special. The last time I did pictures like this, it was in The Peninsula in Hong Kong, China. A long time ago, before I started my life as cruiser.



Ist doch etwas besonderes. Zuletzt habe ich wohl vergleichbare Bilder in The Peninsula in Hongkong gemacht. Lange bevor ich als Kreuzfahrer angefangen habe.

Draußen in einem Touristenlokal essen, noch weiter reinlaufen? Eine Kleinigkeit brauchen wir noch zu essen. Im Fahrstuhl hängt ja die Werbung für das Danieli Bistro. Nicht billig, aber preiswert. Wir haben einen schönen Tisch mit einem schönen Blick. Kein Dresscode und ich genieße meine Aufschnittplatte, die vor meinen Augen frisch aufgeschnitten wird: also keine Reste vom Frühstücksbüffet. Mein San Daniele Schinken ist wieder mit dabei. Ich frage nach, ob nicht auch etwas Parma-Schinken dazu gehören würde. Man erklärt mir, dass Venedig eben eher mit San Daniele als mit Parma verbunden ist und man daher in Venedig meistens eben San Daniele-Schinken bekommt. Bei allen drei Schinkenplatten, die ich hier in Venedig hatte: es fehlen die leckeren eingelegten Austernpilze, wie damals in San Daniele nach der MSC MERAVIGLIA 2017-Reise.



Eating outside in a tourist restaurant, walking further in? A small quite we needed to eat. In the elevator, they advertised for the Danieli Bistro. Not cheap, but worth the price. We had a nice table with a beautiful view. No dress code and I enjoyed my cold cuts, which was freshly sliced in front of my eyes: so no leftovers from the breakfast buffet. My San Daniele ham was back again. I asked, how it came, that any Parma ham was offered. I was told that Venice was more connected to San Daniele, Italy than to Parma, Italy, and that was why you usually get San Daniele ham in Venice. For all three ham plates that I had here in Venice: the tasty pickled oyster mushrooms were missing. We had them in San Daniele after the MSC MERAVIGLIA 2017 trip.

After the meal, you should rest or walk a thousand steps. We decided to walk again to St. Mark's Square. Here we experienced the tranquillity with very few tourists on the square. We did not have a coffee in the Caffè Florian. Last time we went here before joining NORWEGIAN JADE 2014 (2). However, the musicians played the last piece of music and closed the circle to Atlantis Strings on the NORWEGIAN SUN 2019: Por Una Cabeza by Carlos Gardel. Then they began to pack the musical instruments. Doge's Palace and Bridge of Sighs we would see tomorrow again closer. For the Campanile, the San Marco Basilica and the other sights, our time was not enough this time either. But that was also a reason for coming back.



Nach dem Essen sollst du ruhen oder tausend Schritte tun. Wir entschließen uns nochmals zum Markusplatz zu laufen. Hier erleben wir die Ruhe mit sehr wenigen Touristen auf dem Platz. Einen Kaffee im Caffè Florian trinken wir hier nicht mehr. Da waren wir zuletzt vor der NORWEGIAN JADE 2014 (2). Das letzte Stück, das die Musiker spielen, schließt jedoch den Kreis zu Atlantis Strings auf der NORWEGIAN SUN 2019: Por una Cabeza von Carlos Gardel. Danach beginnen sie die Musikinstrumente einzupacken. Dogenpalast und Seufzerbrücke sehen wir dann morgen in aller Ruhe. Für den Markusturm Campanile, den Markusdom und die anderen Sehenswürdigkeiten, reicht die Zeit auch dieses Mal nicht. Aber das ist ja dann auch ein Grund, immer wieder zu kommen.
